ALBUM OF THE WEEK: @kuunatic - 'Wheels of Ömon' 💿 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 🗣 "Kuunatic have already demonstrated their aptitude for creating groundbreaking psych and garage rock through their earlier releases, but this record expands upon their repertoire by drawing heavily from the age-old sounds of Japan. Traditional instruments are blended seamlessly with modern influences, creating an album that exists somewhere between Iron Butterfly, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the Azuma Kabuki Musicians. Musically, Wheels of Ömon is an album of two halves. The first side is imbued with a dark sense of impending doom, accompanied by abrasive soundscapes and metal-influenced guitars on songs like ‘Disembodied Ternion’. Meanwhile, the second half of the record substitutes that darkness for lightness and naturalistic imagery. Still, the anthemic vocals and traditional Japanese influences remain - thanks in part to Ainu music aficionado Rekpo, who appears on the song ‘Kuuminyo’. The Japanese trio expertly craft the narrative of this mythological landscape, taking listeners on a journey which rarely feels relaxing but is consistently captivating in its musical innovation and atmospheric quality." Read the full feature on our 🔗 in bio

📼 Flashback Rewind 1968 👇📖 🇺🇸🎶🌀 “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” — Iron Butterfly 💬 🔥🥁 “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, baby…” Released in 1968, “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” became one of the most hypnotic, rebellious records of the late ’60s. Built around a thunderous drum solo, distorted organ, and a trance-like groove, the song broke every radio rule of the time — stretching past 17 minutes when most singles barely hit three. It wasn’t polished or pop-friendly; it was loud, heavy, and psychedelic, capturing the raw spirit of a generation pushing against tradition. 🌀🎸 Iron Butterfly helped lay the groundwork for heavy metal and hard rock, long before the genre had a name. The song’s title famously came from a drunken slur of “In the Garden of Eden,” which only added to its mythic, stoned-era legend. Whether blasting from car speakers, underground clubs, or late-night FM radio, this track became a rite of passage — proof that music could be immersive, dangerous, and completely unapologetic. 🔥📼✨ 🕊️ Tribute Doug Ingle (1945–2024), lead singer and organist of Iron Butterfly, passed away from natural causes. His voice and sound helped define an era of psychedelic rock that still echoes today. You will be missed. 🖤 🎞️ Fun Facts 1️⃣ 🥁 Ron Bushy’s drum solo became one of the most famous in rock history. 2️⃣ 📀 The album sold over 30 million copies, one of the first heavy records to do so. 3️⃣ 🌀 The song helped bridge psychedelia into what would become heavy metal. ✨🔥 Turn it up loud and let it run. #FlashbackRewind #IronButterfly #InAGaddaDaVida #1968 #PsychedelicRock

Iron Butterfly - In A Gadda Da Vida. One of the most blissfully indulgent rock songs, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" is animal-instinct rock and roll, playing out for 17:05 in its unabridged form and taking up an entire album side. The mysterious title is one of the great legends in rock. You might think it has a deep, mystical meaning, but it's really a translation error. The title was supposed to be "In The Garden Of Eden." Drummer Ron Bushy wrote it down as "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" because he couldn't understand was vocalist Doug Ingle was singing. Their record company was OK with the title because it sounds exotic and Eastern spirituality was big at the time, with The Beatles going to India and The Rolling Stones experimenting with Indian instruments. As for the meaning of the song, it's just a guy affirming his love for his special girl. When he wrote the song, Doug Ingle didn't intend for it to be over 17 minutes long, but that's how it played out when the band recorded it at what they thought was merely a soundcheck to test levels for engineer Don Casale while they waited for producer Jim Hilton to arrive. Casale, though, kept tape rolling, and the band got in a groove. After the rehearsal was completed they agreed that the performance - filled with mistakes but also with raw energy - was of sufficient quality that another take wasn't needed.

The Spencer Davis Group - "Gimme Some Lovin’” (Live on The Midnight Special, 1975) “Gimme Some Lovin’” was first released by The Spencer Davis Group in 1966 with a lineup that featured Davis on rhythm guitar, Steve Winwood (then 17) on lead vocals and Hammond organ, and his brother Muff Winwood on bass. By 1975, this lineup of the band had long disbanded, with both Winwood brothers out of the fold. While a relatively stable version of the group recorded two albums in 1973 and 1974, Davis assembled an entirely new lineup for this Midnight Special live performance. This performance has (in addition to Davis on rhythm guitar) Buddy Sklar on lead vocals, Chris Pinnick from Chicago on lead guitar, and Lee Dorman from Iron Butterfly on bass. The Hammond organ is noticeably absent, but this thrown-together version of the Spencer Davis Group still tears through a blistering version of the track. If anyone is able to identify the drummer please leave a comment! He was possibly a member of Captain Beyond. #classicrock #livemusic #musichistory #60s #70s

Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Iron Butterfly performing “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” Live on the 16th of April, 1971 About “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” by the Iron Butterfly: This song runs on pure animal-instinct rock and roll with a track length of 17 minutes and 5 seconds.
Keyboardist Doug Ingle was highly influenced by the organ riffs played in a church when he originally created the chords for this song.
When released as a single, the record label edited the song down to just 2 minutes and 52 seconds, but it was progressive FM stations that played the full album version and soon, the band developed a cult like following. In an effort to get the full song, listeners had to buy the album, and they did. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, the album, ended up selling over 4 million copies. Until Led Zeppelin came along, it was the best selling album in the history of Atlantic Records.
