This hadeeth was narrated by al-Tirmidhi (486) from ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “Du’aa’ is suspended between heaven and earth and none of it is taken up until you send blessings upon your Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).” Ibn Katheer said: Its isnaad is jayyid. It was classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi. It was narrated by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (2035) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and he mentioned corroborating reports, then he said: “In conclusion, when all these isnaads and corroborating reports are taken into account, the hadeeth is hasan at the very least, in sha Allaah.” This hadeeth indicates that it is mustahabb to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) when making du’aa’. It seems that this is not a condition of du’aa’, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not do this in all his du’aa’s; rather it may be understood that this is mustahabb. If you're not practicing Islam in your privacy, your privacy will not be practised on the day of Islam ⏰ “O you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look at what he has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do” (Surah Hashr 59:18). This is taking stock of oneself. There is a famous report from Umar RA that speaks of it: Take stock of yourselves before you are brought to account; weigh yourselves before you are weighed, for that will make the Reckoning easier for you tomorrow, if you take stock of yourselves today and prepare yourselves for the great presentation on the Day when you will be be brought to Judgement, and not a secret of yours will be hidden. Narrated by Ibn Abi’d-Dunya in Muhaasabat an-Nafs (p. 22); Ahmad in az-Zuhd (p. 120); Abu Nu‘aym in al-Hilyah (1/52). It was classed as da‘eef by al-Albaani in ad-Da‘eefah (1201) and by Abu Ishaaq al-Huwayni in his Takhreej li Tafseer Ibn Katheer (1/478). He said: The men of its isnaad are thiqaat (trustworthy) but there is a break in the chain between Thaabit ibn al-Hajjaaj and Umar ibn al-Khattaab, because he never met him. Taking stock of oneself is required before doing any deed, whilst doing it and after doing it, at all times. The Prophet ﷺ warned the Sahaba about something even more dangerous than the Dajjal—subtle shirk. This invisible form of associating partners with Allah doesn’t come in the form of idol worship, but rather in seeking validation from others in acts of worship. Imagine perfecting your Salah—not for Allah, but because someone is watching. How often do we let the opinions of people dictate our sincerity? ❓ Are we worshiping for Allah alone, or are we unconsciously seeking approval from others? 💭☝️ With regard to minor shirk, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) warned us against it, fearing that his ummah might fall into it. He (ﷺ) said: “The thing I fear most for you is minor shirk.” [Narrated by Ahmad, 23119. al-Albaani said in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (951): its isnaad is jayyid]. And he said: “Shirk among you is more subtle than the sound of the footsteps of an ant on a rock. Shall I not tell you of something which, if you do it, it will take that away from you, both minor and major forms of it. Allah is the Greatest. So its as if there are 2 Gods when you say this. This statement is a statement of SHIRK. So you can see this is WRONG. Because there is ONE God. And God has No God. ⚠️SHIRK and SIN can be committed without intention. That's why we would inform ourselves and better our ways. Now that you know, you can't make this mistake anymore. This mistake is not taken lightly by those who have the most devotion in their heart. How can you ever be okay with saying Allah has a Lord? So just ask for forgiveness and correct it, and you'll be rewarded for all your past mistakes in sha Allah. Purifying our intention is important as sins can occur always, but as long as we make tawba and ask for forgiveness. We are safe from sin and it's consequences, in sha Allah.
