CIJack Nicholson as the Joker in Batman (1989) is just insane. Every time you watch that scene, he’s doing something different, something unexpected.
He’s completely committed to making the Joker chaotic and unpredictable. The way he moves, the way he talks, the way he looks at people it’s all calculated chaos. He’s not trying to be a typical villain.
He’s having fun with it, enjoying every moment of destruction. Jack Nicholson just commands the screen whenever he’s on it. You can’t look away from him. That’s what makes his performance stick with you even after all these years.
Batman (1989) is directed by Tim Burton and stars Michael Keaton as Batman, who has to deal with Jack Nicholson’s Joker trying to destroy Gotham City. Kim Basinger plays Vicki Vale, caught in the middle of everything. Tim Burton creates this dark, twisted version of Gotham that feels real and dangerous.
The city itself looks insane everything is exaggerated and Gothic. Danny Elfman’s score is haunting and perfect for the whole vibe.
Batman (1989) changed how superhero movies could be made, showing they didn’t have to be cheesy or light. Keaton and Nicholson work so well together because they’re both fully committed to their characters. It’s a film that still holds up because of how seriously it takes itself.

ALJack Nicholson winning the Best Actor Academy Award, his first of three Oscars, in 1976 for his performance as R.P. McMurphy in the masterpiece One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975) and makes a few hilarious remarks in doing so in classic Jack fashion.
Jack had been nominated four times prior to this win and, looking at what he was nominated for, it’s hard to believe he didn’t win an Oscar sooner. He was nominated for his performances in Easy Rider (1969), Five Easy Pieces (1970), The Last Detail (1973), and Chinatown (1974). In between this win and Jack’s second Oscar win, for Terms of Endearment (1983), he earned a nomination for his role in Reds (1981). He later was nominated for his performances in Prizzi’s Honor (1985), Ironweed (1988), A Few Good Men (1992), and About Schmidt (2003). His last Oscar win was for playing an unfriendly author in As Good As It Gets (1997). This totals up to three wins and nine nominations, making Jack one of the awarded actors in Academy Awards history (as he should be 🫡👏🏻👏🏻). The Passenger (1975) is one of Jack Nicholson’s favorite films he ever made. He even called it “probably the biggest adventure in filming” of his life.
Wanting to protect a piece of art that he loved, Nicholson bought the rights to the film and kept it out of circulation for years. In 2003, he entered into negotiations with Sony to re-release the film.
Film follows a tired journalist who, during a trip, makes a sudden choice that lets him step into a completely different life. At first, it feels like freedom. A clean break from everything he’s been running from. But as he moves through unfamiliar places, that new life starts to feel heavier than expected.
