OUR ROOTS RUN DEEPER THAN BORDERS. WE WERE HERE FIRST. LAND. BACK. LAND BACK is the end of a system that profits from disappearance. LAND BACK is NOT about kicking out everyday people whose ancestors immigrated to this continent back to their homelands. Our culture, our food, safety and future all come from the land. Land back recognizes our deeply rooted connection to the Earth and all living creatures. We moved freely long before states existed. Borders criminalize our movement and survival. Raids cause fear that keeps labor cheap. Fear clears our communities without firing a single shot. Our current food comes from exploited land and exploited people. LAND BACK means food sovereignty and dignity. Our Indigenous food systems are sustainable and local, that’s the future of our health. WE ARE STILL HERE. They told you to call us immigrants but we remember who we are. #LANDBACK #Indigenousnotimmigrant

How can you be illegal on land that was stolen from you? Same story. Different century. Nothing really changed.” "How can they own our land?" When Wes Studi asked this in Hell on Wheels, he wasn’t just reciting a script. He was exposing the fundamental flaw of the General Allotment Act. This law (the Dawes Act) was designed to carve up tribal lands into private parcels, stripping tribes of millions of acres through "legal" deception. Fast forward to 2026: The story hasn't changed. Indigenous people have been U.S. citizens since 1924, yet today, ICE operations are creating a climate of fear on tribal lands. In early 2026, the Oglala Sioux Tribe took the historic step of banning ICE from its reservation. Why? Because Native citizens—like a member of the Mescalero Apache recently stopped for a passport—are being questioned on the very land their ancestors held long before the U.S. existed. The Irony: Native Americans have been recognized as U.S. citizens by federal law since 1924. And yet, recent ICE activity has raised fear among Indigenous communities. Reports describe Native citizens being questioned, detained, and asked to prove they belong in a country that was theirs long before the United States existed. A Mescalero Apache tribal member was reportedly stopped and asked for a passport during an ICE operation. In early 2026, the Oglala Sioux Tribe moved to ban ICE from its reservation after growing concern over enforcement actions affecting Native people. Do people even realize that the first peoples of this land were among the last to receive U.S. citizenship? The Indian Citizenship Act was signed only in 1924. (National Archives) This is why the quote from Hell on Wheels still feels relevant: “How can they own our land?” Back then, it was the railroad pushing through Native land, backed by land grants, broken treaties, force, fraud, and laws like the General Allotment Act that stripped tribes of millions of acres. (Native American Rights Fund) Today, the systems may look different. But the question remains the same: How can they own land that was never theirs? #nokingsprotest #landback #firstnations #donaldtrump #history

Did you like my shout out to Alberta Primere, @abdaniellesmith? 😉 While people wave flags today, here’s what I’m sitting with: most people don’t even understand what “Canada” is build on. And so when Alberta’s premier talks about “separating” and taking the land with her, she’s not reclaiming anything, she’s doubling down on theft. Because let’s be real: She’s not just trying to walk away. She’s trying to take the good land, the water, and the resources, too, land that was never Alberta’s to begin with. This isn’t sovereignty. It’s settler greed rebranded. So no, I won’t be celebrating “Canada” today. I’ll be honoring the Indigenous Nations whose lands were never ceded, whose treaties were never respected, and who are still protecting the Earth from settler destruction, including from provincial leaders who wouldn’t last one minute without Indigenous land under their feet. Please share and save for future reference. “READ MY LIPS: PERMISSION. CONSENT…if you don’t get our permission, you ain’t doing it.” 🙅 The public committee hearings on Bill 5 continue today. This statement was given by Dean Sayers, spokesperson for Robinson Huron Waawiindamaagewin Political Group, during Thursday’s hearings. More Indigenous leaders have been speaking today, and over and over again, they are put in a position to explain that treaties MUST be respected. That they are nation to nation agreements, that Indigenous peoples are rights holders not stakeholders. And they reserve the right to say NO when a project does not pass their processes and laws. All Indigenous groups and communities have their own unique systems and laws but they have all stated clearly: Bill 5 does not respect the treaty, flies in the face of the law and must be stopped. If you are able, we have put a link to support the travel expenses of Indigenous leaders who had to pay to travel in order to speak at today’s hearing. ANOTHER WAY TO TAKE ACTION: Technically - Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont can delay Bill 5. It doesn’t happen often, and it’s certainly not the only thing we can rely on, but it’s one more place to raise your voice. She is the King’s representative in Ontario. After 3rd reading, a Bill needs “Royal Assent” to become Law through the Lieutenant Governor’s signature. If a bill threatens the Constitution, treaty rights, or public trust, she can withhold or delay Royal Assent. It’s rare—but legal. She can either - Withhold Assent (rare—vetoes the bill, prevents it from becoming law) - Reserve Assent for the Governor General (delays the decision and refers it to federal level) You’ve signed petitions sending messages to your MPPs - we could try contacting Lieutenant Governor Edith Dumont: https://www.lgontario.ca/en/other-enquiries/ (LINK IN BIO) Phone: 416-325-7780 TTY: 416-325-5003 Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. And TAG @lgontario on social media. #StopBill5 #DougFordIsCorrupt #YoursToDiscover #Ontario #ONpoli #Cdnpoli #OntarioPolitics #IndigenousRights #TreatyRights #LandBack #DougFord

The correlation between the displacement of First Nations people and the degradation of our natural world is not a coincidence—it is a map of the same history. 🌏🌳 These maps of Australia illustrate a profound and painful parallel. In 1788, the entire continent was under the stewardship of Indigenous peoples, managed through sophisticated systems like cultural burning and sustainable harvesting that maintained the health of the land for over 65,000 years. At that same time, old-growth forests and native grasslands were "intact," forming a resilient, carbon-rich landscape. Fast forward to today, and the visual shift is staggering. As Indigenous land rights were systematically stripped away, the environmental cost followed immediately. The purple and grey areas on the second map represent millions of hectares of land that have been cleared or degraded for intensive agriculture, urbanization, and industry. Why this matters: Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK): Indigenous stewardship is not just about "leaving nature alone"; it’s about active, expert management. When people are removed from their Country, the traditional practices that prevent catastrophic wildfires and promote biodiversity disappear. Climate Resilience: Old-growth forests are our best defense against climate change. Their loss, alongside the loss of Indigenous sovereignty, has left the continent more vulnerable to extreme heat and ecological collapse. We cannot achieve true climate justice without Land Back and Indigenous leadership. To heal the planet, we must respect the rights of those who have known how to care for it since time immemorial. Restoration is as much about justice as it is about biology. #ClimateJustice #IndigenousSovereignty #LandBack #Conservation #AustraliaEnvironmentalHistory
