Putting LEDS into used motor oil is just magical! A throwback to 2019 when I was experimenting with this process. I ended up making 3 versions of this work but this round version is my favorite. Sadly used motor oil is very intense on everything it touches so the work didn't last for long. I haven't got the time to find a good alternative unfortunately. Maybe I will in the future. The motor oil just gives it an amazing colour gradient. #engineering #lightart #mechanical #art #light

Este tipo de recubrimientos contiene materiales fosforescentes que absorben energía de la luz (solar o artificial) y la almacenan temporalmente. Después, la liberan poco a poco en forma de luz visible. Por eso el coche “se enciende” en la oscuridad. El fenómeno se llama fotoluminiscencia. A nivel científico, ocurre porque los electrones del material absorben energía, saltan a un estado excitado y luego regresan liberando fotones. Pero lo interesante no es solo el efecto visual: • Puede mejorar la visibilidad nocturna • Reduce necesidad de iluminación externa • Se investiga para seguridad vial y señalización • Aplicaciones en diseño, arquitectura y tecnología No es solo estética.
