WEDuring Developmental Disability Awareness Month, we reflect on where this work began and why it still matters.
For 65 years, Fello has been part of a broader movement rooted in civil rights, disability rights, and the belief that people with disabilities deserve the opportunity to live the lives they choose at home, at work, and in the community.
What started decades ago as advocacy for basic access has evolved into systems that support independence, belonging, and choice. Over the years, our work has grown and changed, but the purpose has remained the same: building the conditions that allow people to thrive in their own communities.
As we reflect this month, we're proud to carry forward that legacy not as a moment in time, but as ongoing leadership shaped by the voices, experiences, and lives of the people we support.
Because awareness isn't just about looking back, it is about continuing the work.

CHLimb Difference/ Limb loss Awareness Month is almost over, so I wanted to reshare part of this film 🎬While filming this with Zoey and Angel, I saw so many parallels to my own experiences. Seeing people like yourself, expands your eyes to possibilities. It’s healing.
Representation isn’t just about visibility: it’s about pushing for access to medical care, prosthetics, and the resources the community deserves. So as we close out this month, I encourage everyone to highlights the experiences of individuals with limb differences, and work toward being promoting understanding and belonging of all people. WIWe had a truly meaningful evening at Leaders For Change event sharing space with incredible organizations committed to making a difference.
It was an honor to present the mission of Wings for Limbs and to share my story not only as a founder, but as an amputee who was able to overcome limitations having access to the resources needed to regain mobility and independence.
We were also given the incredible opportunity to raise funds through the generosity of this remarkable group of people. These contributions will be directed to @parasportontario , who will dedicate the funds to providing mobility devices and adaptive equipment for individuals living with limb loss.
Grateful to have shared the stage with inspiring organizations like @camp_kirk and @cafhalton, who are also doing important work in our communities.
Evenings like this remind us that when leaders, organizations, and communities come together
with purpose, real impact happens.
Thank you to everyone who made this night so special and for believing in this mission.

ILIt’s really hard to advocate for yourself with ALS. To be seen, to be diagnosed, to say hey I’m here. So seeing yourself represented like this matters. It reminds people that they’re still here, still taking up space, still part of something bigger, a piece of art.
Even when movement and mobility become really limited, it doesn’t mean your impact stops. You’re still making a difference just by being part of the story.
And for the people who are no longer here, their lives mattered, and they still do. Their impact doesn’t just disappear.
This is for the people who want so badly to make change, but don’t always have the physical capacity to carry the load anymore. It shows them they’re still part of the movement.
