While many are excited about the Rodeo, there’s another decade long tradition Houstonians won’t get a chance to see this year. The Hispanic civil rights organization, LULAC, announced it’s canceling its annual Cinco de Mayo Parade for the first time since the pandemic. LULAC District 8 says there are growing concerns within the city’s Hispanic community about ICE. In 2025, officials say about 5 thousand were in attendance, a major change from the 20-thousand or more people who usually attend. For some longtime Houstonians, this is devastating. “It’s something they would look forward to just like July the fourth, the whole year. And it’s a tradition for all the Mexican people here in the city when we were kids would come to downtown, and it was a family affair.” According to research from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, which is a nonprofit and nonpartisan data gathering organization, as of February 7th, ICE was holding a little more than 68 thousand in detention. . . . #MorningNews #CincoDeMayo #LULAC #HoustonNews #ABC13
