GAHere’s a super simple breakdown of how I perfect my drone videos.
I always start by recording in d-cine and converting my footage back to a rec709 look. (If you record in normal colour you can skip this)
I follow this by making some basic exposure and split toning adjustments which affect the highlights and shadows. Once this is done I make some local masks to affect specific areas in my shot before hitting export.
Ive turned six of my favourite looks into my own custom drone LUTs to make your videos look professional and cinematic with just a few clicks, no matter whether you’re editing on your desktop, or mobile (VN & Capcut)

1) Think about what aspects of life resonate with you and how you can share your unique perspective. Write down your thoughts and create a vision statement to guide your work.
2) Immerse yourself in inspiring work from other creatives. Study their portfolios and processes, experiment with different styles, and draw inspiration until you find your unique approach.
3) My images and clips share a consistent, dreamy, filmic color palette with warm oranges and teal blue skies. I strive for a cohesive look, even in varied environments, as color is central to my storytelling. The right color combinations evoke emotions and enhance the narrative. Thus, I’m always intentional in my color choices.
4) Planning is essential for golden hour shoots. I often scout locations on Google Earth in advance to know exactly where to park, prepare, and how much time I will have to capture the perfect light.
5) Timing is crucial. I find my ideal position 20 minutes before sunset to capture the best glow and explore different angles for the most compelling compositions.
6) I like to mask a lot in my videos. I play around with the curves to create balance in the image, keeping the highlights from being blown out and the shadows crushed. I spend a lot of time making sure the colors are balanced, giving that golden hour a dreamy, filmic quality that enhances the natural beauty of the shot.
7) Lastly, I always remember to celebrate my accomplishments along the way. This tip will fuel your motivation and inspire you to chase your vision!” 🎥

When you start using manual settings you can adapt the way you record to best suit the environment that you’re in. Meaning you’ll achieve a greater level of consistency across your footage.
There’s no magic formula but over the years l’ve set up my drones with similar settings to these ones below. If you’re starting out shooting in manual save them to use for a later date.
- Shoot in 4K or above
- H.265 Codec
- 30 fps for IG 24 fps for cinematic look or 60 gps for slow motion
- Shutter speed double your frame rate
- Low ISO (100-200)
- ND filters (especially during the day)
- Shoot in D-log or D-cinelike to preserve details when grading
- Turn on frame guides and exposure peaking
