World Breastfeeding Week deserves a celebration with Choc Chip Lactation Cookies 🎉 I breastfed both my boys for 18months + but my gosh it wasn’t without its challenges - poor latch, mastitis x 3, vasospasm, dermatitis, biting, a tooth sized chuck of flesh missing 🙈 and more I’m sure I’ve forgotten. My family told me to give up, and I did pump exclusively at times when the pain was unbearable but I’m so glad I persisted as things did eventually improve and I enjoyed a long breastfeeding journey until they were ready to give it up. For those who might be struggling, if it’s important to you for whatever reason and you’re not ready to give up, have hope that things can improve as they did for me 🙌 These cookies are created with ingredients supportive of milk production but totally fine for everyone to eat (hot tip though: write lactation cookies on the container so more get left for you 😉). Ingredients (makes approx 20): 1 cup self raising flour 1 1/2 cups rolled oats 1/3 cup flaxseed meal 1 (or 2) tablespoons brewers yeast (omit if not breastfeeding) 1/3 cup raw sugar (or more if you like them sweeter) 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 cup melted butter 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/4 cup water 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup of chocolate chips Directions: Preheat the oven to 180’C. Combine the dry ingredients and then add the wet before mixing together. Add your chocolate chips and stir through. Richard is the best baker everrrrrr and he whips these up for me with so much love. Last time I posted these, I literally got almost 200 DMs asking for the recipe, so here it is! Lactation cookies include ingredients known as galactagogues, which can help support my breastfeeding journey. Oats, flaxseeds, brewer’s yeast and coconut oil are just a few of my favorite ingredients to include. Recipe: 113g butter (take out of fridge until soft) 100g brown sugar 50g white sugar 1 egg 5g vanilla 100g flour 20g brewer’s yeast 10g flaxseed meal 2g baking soda 2g cinnamon 2g salt 150g rolled oats 100g choc chips (semi sweet) 60g nuts (optional - like chopped walnuts) Splash of milk if needed Coco powder, optional Directions: ���Cream butter + sugars until light and fluffy. ���Mix in egg + vanilla. ���Add dry ingredients. ���Fold in oats, chocolate, extras. Splash milk if needed to get cookie dough consistency. ���Scoop 60-80g each, flatten. ���Bake 350°F / 175°C for 13-16 min or until golden brown. ���Cool + enjoy.
