but yes the more a baby who efficiently & effectively nurses, the more breastmilk is usually produced. Offering the breast more frequently is such a strategic yet overlooked method to increasing your supply. If you’re new here, hi I’m Nicole! A certified breastfeeding specialist and mom of 3. Here to not over complicate breastfeeding but encourage it in a simple, gentle, & loving approach. Let’s be friends! #breastfeeding #postpartum #newborn

As a lactation counselor, I get very frustrated when someone says they “can’t” breastfeed. It is extremely rare that someone cannot breastfeed their (own) born baby. 🤱🏻 So when is it NOT the best option for baby (or mom)? In some rare medical situations, your doctor may recommend you avoid breastfeeding, or, as an alternative, pump & dump your milk for a specified time after some medications or treatments. I would always get multiple professional opinions if breastfeeding is important to you & the answer you received is is not what you had planned for your journey. So what if you just don’t WANT to breastfeed? That’s fine too! Every mom has this choice and SO many other choices in their motherhood. As someone passionate about the benefits of breastfeeding for mom & baby I would ALWAYS encourage it as an option. What are the next best options if a mom feels breastfeeding just is not for her? 🍼 pumping & bottle feeding 🍼 donor breast milk 🍼 high quality formula OR homemade formula 💕 We’re lucky we have so many wonderful options for our babies in 2026. My best advice to pregnant mamas is work with a trusted lactation professional BEFORE baby is born so you’re prepared for all the bumps in the road. Not medical advice, always talk to your doctor. #lactationcounselor #breastfeedingsupport #postpartumrecovery #momsofinstagram #momsupportingmoms

6 months of keeping a whole human alive with my body… casually. No big deal. Just ✨ producing custom milk on demand ✨ adjusting ingredients like a tiny biological Starbucks ✨ running on snacks, vibes, and minimal sleep Breastfeeding is wild because one minute you’re like “this is beautiful” and the next you’re like “why am I being used as a 24/7 all-inclusive buffet” But also… ✨ your milk literally changes if your baby is sick ✨ it hydrates, feeds, comforts, and regulates them all at once ✨ and somehow… your body just knows what to do 6 months of this magic with you, Eli girl 🤍 I’m tired… but also kinda impressed with myself not gonna lie 😌 #milkymama #breastfeedingjourney #6monthsbaby #momlifechaos #normalizebreastfeeding

Let’s not forget, PATIENCE! It took 9 months of consistency to hit my “peak” in output. I was covered in a haze of intrusive thoughts with my second and thought I needed to build a massive oversupply, JUST IN CASE. If I could do it all over again, I would not have gone this hard. But, since soooooo many moms ask me how I did it, here it is. Remember, this is not medical advice. I’m simply sharing what I did for my own personal breastfeeding journey. Raising tiny humans while trying to piece your bodies back together is hard af. You’re doing amazing, mamas. Don’t forget that 🤍 #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeeding #breastmilk #momlife #sahm

Nobody warns you about the gap between the parent you planned to be and the one you actually become at 3am with a screaming newborn. I had a plan. I was a physician. I knew things. And then I spent 6–7 hours a day breastfeeding and pumping with my second. I used a tube to siphon formula while she fed at the breast. I never got milk. I eventually let it go. And I REFUSE to feel guilty about it. Because here’s what I’ve learned (as a doctor and as a mom): there is more than one way to be an incredible parent. The version of yourself you meet in those first few weeks might surprise you. And that person? The one who showed up exhausted and figured it out anyway? That’s the one your kid is going to love unconditionally. No matter what. 🔗 My newest podcast episode, Life With a Newborn (Part 1) just dropped — the honest guide to everything that happens after baby is born. #momlife #newborn #postpartum #momguilt #survivingtinyhumans

This is something no one really prepares you for… When your milk comes in, that fullness can feel intense, hard, uncomfortable, and honestly a little overwhelming. A lot of moms think something is wrong in that moment. You’re not doing anything wrong. It’s common, but understanding what’s happening makes it a lot easier to navigate. #postpartum #breastfeedingjourney #newmomlife #engorgement #momsoftiktok

After my first baby, I hated breastfeeding. It was 3 months of confusion and feeling so inadequate because the thing everyone told me would just *work* didn’t. I followed all the care plans. 1oz of formula with every feed. Nurse. Pump. Bottle feed. “It will work if you want it.” “It’s supply and demand.” He lost weight. He slept more. He was quiet. At a month, he was a still a pound below his birth weight. I was so scared to keep nursing and he’d already been rejecting it that I just ended up pumping for 3 months. 8 pumps for 6oz a day and a constant hope that, “it’ll just increase if I work harder.” I couldn’t focus on what I was giving him because every pump felt like a reminder of what I wasn’t. I sunk into a loop of constant self-criticism that said, “what you do isn’t enough.” Around 4 months I weaned. I formula fed. I bonded with my baby. I resented the lactation consultants, pediatrician and friends that had made it sound like this could all be “fixed.” then I got pregnant again. And this time, I decided, maybe I would try to breastfeed again, but instead of it being about the thing everyone else said was most valuable, I’d define what was most valuable for us. I learned how to support nursing with a low supply. I stopped believing that breastfeeding is all or nothing. I started believing more in myself and focusing on the ways my child and I were growing together. And then I nursed my second child until she was 3 and my third child is still going at 2 and a half. I don’t say that as a breastfeeding flex. I say it grateful that we were able to invent our own way and that it worked for us. Especially because, and in spite of, all the times we were told it wouldn’t work. I’ve never exclusively breastfed any of my kids. But I did give them everything I could, in and outside of myself, and that was always enough. #breastfeeding #lowmilksupply #parenthood

They tell you to keep taking prenatals postpartum… but not really why. Breastfeeding takes a lot— iron, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, electrolytes. If you’re not replenishing (and absorbing them)… you’ll feel it. Not all vitamins are created equal. Most shelf prenatals aren’t in forms your body can actually use. The ones I’m using are all-natural, gentle on my gut, and support milk supply + energy. Hydration? All the water in the world won’t help if electrolytes are off. This time, I’m focusing on absorption + rebuilding my stores—especially iron. A depleted mama? She feels it in everything. 🤍 Curious what I’m taking?
