We were honored to have world-class guest speaker Ryan Deiss join us to share his perspective on growth and leadership. Alongside him was our very own Celene Dupuis, along with a half dozen incredible Academy mentors who poured their experience into the room. Together we helped our clients retune what matters most—inside themselves and inside their businesses. And when leaders tune themselves, something powerful happens. That’s an old mentality It might have worked 10 years ago… but today, it’s different Your team is looking for more than just a paycheck Some want more time Some want flexibility Some care about their environment and how they feel at work Some want growth, education, and purpose If money is the only thing you’re offering… you’re not actually leading, you’re guessing Because every stylist defines success differently And if you don’t know what motivates each person on your team… you can’t build a plan that actually keeps them This is where retention starts → Sit down one-on-one → Take them to lunch → Ask better questions “What does success look like for you?” “What kind of schedule do you actually want?” “What would make this feel sustainable for you?” Because when you understand what drives them… you can lead them better And when you lead them better… they stay

If you feel like your team walks all over you, it’s usually not a people problem. It’s a standards problem. Here’s what’s actually happening. You have one standard for one person… and a different standard for another. Maybe the top producer gets away with things. Maybe the OG stylist gets special treatment. Maybe the new hire gets corrected but the veteran doesn’t. And when your team sees that? Your words stop meaning anything. Because standards only work when they apply to everyone. If you want people to actually follow through, you need non-negotiables. Clear standards that apply to every person in the salon. No exceptions. That starts the moment someone joins your team. During the interview, you should be doing two things: First, learn their goals. Where do they want their career to go? What do they want to achieve? Second, show them your playbook. Your position agreements. Your expectations. Your standards for how people show up in the salon. Then make it clear: these standards apply to everyone. The team. The new hires. Even you as the owner. Because leadership isn’t about telling people what to do. It’s about creating a standard everyone agrees to… and holding everyone accountable to it. If you don’t have non-negotiables yet, that’s where you start. Set the standard. Then enforce it consistently. That’s when your team starts taking you seriously. #salonowner
