Early in my Amazon career, I learned an important lesson about what visible leadership really means. It’s not enough to be connected to the business, it’s also about how you’re demonstrating that to your team. As leaders, it’s important to ask questions not just to learn—but also to teach, demonstrate what’s important, and help everyone build the same mental models. For me, this “light switch moment” marked the beginning of my journey towards servant leadership—shifting the focus from what’s important to me to a better question: What can I do to help the rest of the team succeed? I enjoyed chatting about lessons like this one, plus sharing an inside look at Amazon’s fast delivery, with Kandace Kapps in the latest episode of the podcast.

It’s about a few decisions that compound over time: - Saying yes before you feel ready - Moving countries when it’s uncomfortable - Taking roles that stretch you beyond your current identity - Betting on yourself when there’s no guarantee This video isn’t about where I started. It’s about the decisions that changed everything. It’s an honour to be featured by @jointheguava (Please Follow Them). If you’re at a crossroads right now, this might help you think differently. Most people still think Amazon is just a place to buy stuff. That view is already behind. Because Amazon’s real advantage is not the storefront. It is the data behind every search, click, product view, and purchase. The more it learns about what people want, the better it gets at shaping what they see next. And as AI gets stronger, it becomes even more powerful. If you sell on Amazon, shop on Amazon, or compete with Amazon, this matters more than most people realize. James Thomson breaks down what Amazon really is beneath the surface. His perspective matters because he is pointing to the engine driving the platform’s influence. “It’s really a data company.” That one line changes the way you look at Amazon. 🔑 Key Takeaways: Amazon tracks behavior, not just transactions. Every search and purchase helps it build a clearer profile of each shopper. AI will make product recommendations even more customized. Amazon can use data to predict future needs, not just respond to current ones. The platform’s strength comes from what it knows and how it uses it. 💡 Why It Matters: Sellers need to understand the data side, not just the marketplace side. Consumers are being influenced by systems that learn from every action. Better predictions can shape where attention and money go. The future of e-commerce belongs to platforms that understand behavior best. 🧑‍💼 Your Turn: ✔ Look at what Amazon recommends to you and ask why. ✔ Think about how much of your buying behavior is being guided. ✔ Consider what AI-powered personalization means for your business. ✔ Share this with someone who still sees Amazon as only a store. Watch the full episode for the deeper conversation on e-commerce, AI, and consumer behavior. https://social.teck.global/youtube/James_Thomson_Podcast_Episode Save this, share it, and start paying closer attention to the systems shaping what people buy next.

I thought scaling Amazon to seven figures meant I understood business. Then I tried building a real sales team. Hiring, training, managing performance, building pipeline. Problems Amazon had been quietly solving for me suddenly became my responsibility. That’s when I realized platform revenue isn’t the same as real business mastery.

🚨Most Amazon businesses don’t have a team problem. They have a communication problem. If you want to scale on Amazon, your meeting structure matters more than you think. I break it down simply. Annual meetings set the strategy and big goals. Quarterly meetings align direction and priorities. Monthly meetings review performance and adjust. Weekly meetings keep execution on track at the team level. Each level serves a different purpose. Without this structure, teams get reactive instead of proactive. And that’s when growth slows down. Scaling isn’t just about better products or ads. It’s about building a system your team can actually operate in. 🙌 #AmazonSeller #AmazonFBA #EcommerceStrategy #Leadership #entrepreneur
