🇬🇧 *WWII uncovered: The Loss of a Legend* Major Mike Sadler — the last surviving original member of the SAS — passed away on January 4, 2024 at 103 years old. As told to Blind Veterans UK, Feb 24, 2023: "Mike’s first experiences of behind the lines action with the LRDG and one particular operation led to him being 'picked up by the SAS' as he describes it. He says: 'Although I’d never heard of them before, they had just had their first disastrous parachute operation and we were sent to camp for a few days outside a place called Jalu to meet them.' 'I was introduced to some of the survivors of the SAS operation and was told to take who turned out to be Paddy Mayne to a place in the west, 300 miles across the desert. We were round the back of German lines and had an observation for some time.' 'As a result of that David Stirling co-opted me into the SAS and thereafter I became an SAS chap. I had to go and complete the parachute course to join and get integrated properly. After that it was the end of the LRDG for me.'" Major Sadler became the unit's top navigator. He fought with the SAS across North Africa, Italy, and France. He was awarded the Military Medal, the Military Cross, and was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur — France’s highest honor. Crisp and Chewy Anzac Biscuits! 💕 🌹 Disclaimer: in the video I call them cookies, but they are in fact biscuits! Apologies, English is not my first language and sometimes these subtitles escape me. Let’s just focus on how divine these biscuits are! Ingredients • 1 cup rolled oats • 1 cup plain flour • 1 cup desiccated coconut • ¾ cup brown sugar • 125g butter • 2 tbsp golden syrup • ½ tsp baking soda • 2 tbsp boiling water and small pinch of salt Method 1. Preheat oven to 160°C (fan 140°C). Line a tray. 2. In a bowl, mix oats, flour, coconut, and sugar. 3. In a saucepan, melt butter + golden syrup. Add a small pinch of salt. 4. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water, then stir into the butter mix (it’ll foam). 5. Combine wet and dry ingredients. 6. Roll into balls, place on tray, and flatten slightly. 7. Bake for 10–12 minutes (this is key for chewiness). 8. Let them cool on the tray, they firm up as they set. #anzacday #anzacbiscuits #anzaccookies #lestweforget
