There is a moment when your child starts changing - emotionally and physically- and suddenly the instincts that guided you so well and that you practiced year after year don’t land the same way anymore. The questions change. The conversations feel different. And many parents start wondering, "wait… how do I navigate this stage?" I’m so excited to share The In-Between Years, my brand new podcast with Good Inside! Each week, we’ll talk about the real challenges and transitions that come with raising tweens and teens - and how parents can stay connected through it all. For this very first episode, I’m talking to @drbeckyatgoodinside to talk about the parenting shift that catches so many families off guard when kids enter the tween years. Comment PODCAST and I'll send you a link to the episode! You can also listen now wherever you get your podcasts and watch the full episode on Youtube.

I had one of those moments on the podcast where I had to stop for a second after Dr. Erin Parks shared something that really stayed with me. She shared that when @EquipHealth asked 50 teens entering their family-based treatment if they wanted their parents involved… zero said yes. Zero. And honestly? That makes sense. Wanting independence is developmentally appropriate. And here is the part that got me. At the end, almost every teen said they were glad their parents ultimately were involved. And many said they wished their parents had stepped in sooner. Teens often protect their parents with silence. Parents often protect their teens by hesitating to step in. And in the middle of that gap, kids are struggling alone longer than they need to. If you are sitting there wondering whether to lean in… our conversation on the Good Inside podcast is for you. It might just shift the way you think about your role in your teen’s hardest moments. Comment PODCAST and I’ll send you a link to listen to the full episode. You can also listen wherever you get your podcasts. #EquipHealthPartner

Wendy Snyder Fresh Start Family- parenting expert and mom, sees it differently. She's watched parents exhaust themselves trying to control behavior through punishment and consequences—only to end up more frustrated while their kids develop anxiety, defiance, or complete shutdown. The alternative isn't permissive parenting or letting kids run wild. It's understanding that children's brains literally can't process complex behavioral lessons when they're flooded with shame or fear. This conversation reveals why traditional discipline often backfires—and what actually works when you understand how developing brains function. Full episode in bio or comment "EPISODE". Listen if you've ever wondered why consequences that "should" work... don't.
