Lighting can make or break a space. We all know what bad lighting looks and feels like, but good lighting can be difficult to achieve. So here are some lighting tips that can help your space feel more welcoming. 1) Layer your lighting sources. Don’t rely on the Big Light. It will make everything feel flat and cold. With layered lighting, you create zones and regions within your space, making everything look more intentional. 2) Adjust the color temperature. The color temperature of a bulb reflects what color it emits. A “cooler” bulb will emit blue light, and a “warmer” bulb will emit orange light. We recommend using warmer bulbs for your residential space, since it creates a softer, cozier feeling. 3) Place with intention. The lighting sources in your space creates a flow, similar to large furniture pieces. Lights, in corners especially, can be used to fill visual voids and to make your space look more complete. Try it yourself. Adjust the lighting situation in your space and try to feel the difference. You’ll noticed how subtle yet profound the effect lighting has in your space. How I use flash to create more engaging content 📸 For this I used my Godox Speedlight attached directly onto the camera and then I’ll extend the white card in the flash to direct more light onto the subject. The effect can work exactly the same if your camera has a built in flash 👍🏻 FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY TIP: If you want more ambient/natural light in your image make your shutter speed duration longer, a faster shutter speed will bias your flash and the lighting that generates 👊🏻 Do you prefer flash photography or more natural lighting? ☀️ Like & Follow @cmcg.creative for more ❤️ Images from an invite with @justjesseating over to @thetradingroute route based in Manchester City centre 🍗 Food Photography | Flash Food Photography | Lighting Tips | Easy Photography Setup | Easy Food Photography | Photography Tips For Beginners | Food Photoshoot | Manchester Restaurants | Manchester Photographer | Photography Reels | Manchester Food Blogger | Social Media Photo | Photography Ideas For Food #flashphotography #flashphoto #flashfoodphotography #directflashphotography #photographyeffects #easyphotography #camerasetup #photographysetup #photographytips #photographytipsforbeginners #photographytutorial #foodphotoshoot #manchesterphotography #manchesterfood #manchesterfoodphotographer #manchesterrestaurant #manchesterrestaurants #manchestercitycentre #manchesterfoodphotographer #foodphotographytips #camerasettings #photographysettings #photographycommunity #photographyreel #photographyreels #cameragear #photographygear #foodphotographyideas #photographyideas #photographyinspiration

Stop blasting flash straight at your subject. 🚫⚡ That’s how you get flat, harsh lighting. Instead — bounce it. When you point your flash at the ceiling, you’re turning that entire ceiling into a giant softbox. Bigger light source = softer, more flattering light. But here’s the catch 👇 If you bounce straight up, you might get shadows in the eyes — especially with deep-set eyes. So I prefer this 👇 Tilt and swivel to about 45° behind me. That bounce gives beautiful, natural light with better catchlights and fewer shadows. You can also bounce off a side wall if it’s white — that gives you soft but directional light. ⚠️ Important: White ceilings = perfect. Colored ceilings = color cast nightmare. In that case? Go off-camera. I’m using the V1 Pro here — but this works with any on-camera flash. Want to see examples? Drop a ⚡ below. And send this to that friend who still nukes people with direct flash 😌 #FlashPhotography #LightingTips #PhotoTechniques

You gotta try this lighting trick. Reverse key looks complicated, but it’s really just power + placement + contrast: 🎯 Key light: 40–70% on the far side of the face 🎯 Fill light: 5–25% on the camera side 🎯 Color temps: match them 🎯 Shadows: toward camera = instant cinematic depth Most people mess this up by blasting both lights equally. But your contrast ratio should always match the look you’re going for — moody = more contrast, clean = less. Try this once and your interviews, talking heads, and creator content will look completely different. Save this so you don’t forget the ratio. #contentcreationtips #contentcreator #contentcreation #productionlife #filmmakingtips #cinematic #cinematiclighting #cinematicvideo #lightingtips

MY 3 LIGHTING SETUPS FOR FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY 🍔 📸 For these I used flash but you can create the same effects with continuous and natural light 👊🏻 🔦 SIDE LIGHT - My most common setup as you’ll get really nice contrast and shadows from the light but also still get the food nicely lit up 👊🏻 🔦 BACK LIGHT - Best for food thats shallower or flat, you may need to add a front light if you’re not getting enough definition. Back lights also create a really nice ‘silhouette’ effect 🔦 FRONT LIGHT - Creates flatter lighting as shadows are often behind the food so you won’t typically see them To create more contrast and make your images pop, think about moving your light source more to the side or behind 📸 If it’s a high angle shot/flat lay then I’ll use one of these but increase the hight of the flash to get more lighting on the top ☝🏻 What effect do you thinks more engaging for content?
