NAI debated whether or not to share this with you. This week has been a tougher one. I have:
• Sat at federal court for a case where a man who had been arrested 71 times set a woman on fire on the train. She’s in critical condition.
• Recorded a podcast about American women who thought they were getting prenatal vitamins—but were actually given a radioactive drink that led to some of their children dying of cancer.
• Been screamed at and threatened outside the courthouse while filming with my crew.
It’s a lot.
But I wanted to share because there is ONE THING I do when it all feels heavy: I look for the glimmers.
The tiny, quiet pieces of proof that people are still mostly good, mostly kind, mostly lovely.
Today’s glimmer: on the way to court I met a man with a five-gallon drum of birdseed.
He told me:
“I’m not feeding pigeons, I’m feeding rock doves. We domesticated them. They loved us. Then we abandoned them and decided they were dirty and bad. But they deserve help getting through the winter too.”
That one moment is what I’m holding onto right now.
