3 grab & go options for your footy bag👇🏼 If you’re training at night and you feel flat, heavy, or slow in the first 15 minutes, it’s rarely your fitness. It’s usually your fuel. In the 45–60 minutes before training, you want simple carbohydrates that digest quickly and top up blood glucose. Not fats. Not a big hit of protein. They slow digestion and just sit there in your stomach doing nothing but making you feel crook. Aim for roughly 30–60g of simple carbohydrates depending on your size and the session: • Lighter player or lighter session → 30–40g • Bigger body or high-intensity session → 40–60g If your output and performance matters, so does the hour before you train. #afl #localfooty #aflw #australianrulesfootball

Comment “MAXIMISE” for the game-ready tips 👇🏼 Most players are just trying to get “fit” before round one. That’s why they still fade in games, lack impact in contests, and can’t repeat high speed efforts when it matters. Fitness is capacity. Game-ready is repeat speed, contest strength, and decision-making under fatigue. Train for the game, not the 2km. #afl #localfooty #aflw #australianrulesfootball

A glimpse into an away trip as a dietitian working in the AFL 🏉✨ Last week we headed to Mandurah for our final trial match against Fremantle. Here’s what my role looked like behind the scenes 👇 🥗 Ordering & collecting travel lunch 🏨 Liaising with the hotel catering team to make sure meals met player & staff requirements 🌊 Sneaking in a little time to explore Mandurah 💻 Admin time - food & supplement orders, finalising game day fuelling & hydration plans, proposing new supplement protocols ⏰ Arriving early on game day to set up the fuelling station 💧 Keeping players fuelled & hydrated throughout the match ⚡ Distributing caffeine & pickle juice when needed 🥛 Handing out high-protein milks post-game to kickstart recovery & refuelling It’s a fast-paced role that’s all about preparation to support peak performance and recovery 🔄💪 Got questions about sports nutrition in elite sport? Hers 3 things I’d never eat before training or game day! 1. New foods 🆕 Try and keep the food you eat pre training and game day as normal as possible. Choose foods that you have on a regular basis, food that your body is familiar with and used to processing. so you don’t experience any discomfort! 2. Spicy foods 🌶️ 🥵 I’d say this is fairly obvious, but having a spicy meal before a session or game that’s going to require you to run long distances at high speed is never going to end well😂 Save these foods for another time 3.cream or cheese 🥛 🧀 Foods that are high in fat digest slower and sit heavy in your stomach which is not ideal for football! It can also make you feel sluggish and sick A good pre training or game snack or meal could be something like a Banana, rice cakes, honey. Or all 3 together! #food #footy #afl #viral #viralinstagramreelsvideo♥️

Build a culture that stands up👇🏼 If two teams complete the exact same running program to the exact same standard, but one does it alone and the other does it shoulder to shoulder, they will not be equal on game day. Fitness might match. Connection will not. When lungs are burning and legs are gone, you do not rise to your numbers. You fall to your environment. Preseason is not just about building engines. It is about building belief. Those dark reps, those extra efforts, those moments when no one speaks but no one quits, that is where trust is formed. And when you lock eyes with a teammate late in a game, your brain does not remember the meetings. It remembers who suffered with you. Keep stacking those moments. That is what stands up in September. #afl #localfooty #aflw #australianrulesfootball

If you’ve already played a scratch match and your legs were heavy, lungs burning and you had no burst, that’s not early season rust. That’s your body telling you it’s not ready. A better 2km doesn’t mean you’re game-ready. More sessions doesn’t mean you’re prepared. Games expose speed, repeat efforts and a much higher intensity. If you’re getting exposed in a scratch match, Round 1 will be worse. The next six weeks decide whether you start the season chasing or impacting. Once games begin, it’s too late. Now you’re maintaining, not building. So don’t guess your way into a season. Build it properly. Our 8 Week Round 1 Fast Track is built for this exact window. Comment or DM “BREAKOUT” and we’ll show you how to close the gap. #afl #localfooty #aflw #australianrulesfootball

Here’s why 👇🏼 Running like the first player improves your ability to get to more contests and recover faster between high-intensity efforts. Running like the second player helps you back up your speed when fatigue hits, not just show it once. Running like the third player develops true max speed and acceleration. And this is the part most players miss. Just doing 20m runs does not automatically mean you are training speed. The rest you take between efforts is what determines the outcome. #afl #localfooty #aflw #australianrulesfootball
