BREAKING: Cloudflare is trying to kill WordPress. They just dropped a new CMS called EmDash. Our team has built hundreds of websites, and we install Cloudflare for the sites we build, but it's also used across a huge percentage of the sites on the 'net. Cloudflare is the security layer that tons of those sites use to filter incoming requests. The Cloudflare team is sick of the security issues that come with WordPress. WordPress plugins have direct access to all functionality on the entire site, which if you don't use solid, reputable plugins and really know what you're doing, can present a huge security issue. Sketchy or little-known WordPress plugins have resulted in millions of vulnerabilities across the globe. Cloudflare is coming at this from the security angle, which I think is their main motivation and a huge marketing hook. Also, it's kind of funny they named it EmDash, given that em dashes are basically viewed as a dead giveaway for AI-written content. Maybe that's an SEO play? Who knows. The real question is whether they can actually pull it off. WordPress has a massive community, solid page builders, a whole plugin ecosystem... if you build a good WordPress site, it's really good. Cloudflare has a lot to prove here. We'll see. The em dash - Across social media, classrooms, and even some workplaces, a growing number of people believe that if a sentence contains an em dash, it must have been written by artificial intelligence. The idea has spread quickly as AI tools become more common, turning a simple punctuation mark into what some think is a clear sign of machine-generated text. But the reality is far less dramatic. The em dash has been used in English writing for centuries. Long before modern AI existed, journalists, novelists, and academics relied on it to create emphasis, connect ideas, or insert extra thoughts into a sentence more smoothly than commas or parentheses. The reason it appears frequently in AI writing is simple. Large language models are trained on enormous datasets filled with books, news articles, and professional writing where em dashes already appear naturally. So when AI produces polished, editorial-style text, it ends up using the same punctuation patterns humans have used for decades. In other words, the em dash is not proof something was written by AI. It is simply a punctuation mark that humans have been using long before artificial intelligence ever existed.
