We stayed at the Mimaru Tokyo Asakusa Station Apartments and absolutely loved it. The location couldn’t have been better—right across from Asakusa Station and just a short walk to Sensoji Temple. It was perfect for our family of four! Our room had a full kitchen, a separate bedroom, and bunk beds for the boys, but they offer lots of different layouts depending on what you need. Super family-friendly, spacious, and such an easy home base for exploring Tokyo. Huge shoutout to our amazing travel support who found this spot (and all our other stays!) and helped us plan Jax’s dream trip from start to finish. If you need guidance or just don’t feel like planing ( like I did), just ask and I will send you his way! Feeling so grateful for this adventure. Japan has been magic. ✨🇯🇵#japantrip

I’ve been asked this a lot! My criteria for a first-time family trip to Tokyo (and other parts of Japan) is of course different to what I might look for when travelling as a couple or solo! For this Tokyo (and Japan) family trip, these are some of things we were looking for: 🛏️ SPACE so the kids can chill/play in between sightseeing 🚞 TRAIN station that easily gets to our main attractions, which for this trip included the big “ tourist” ones like Disneyland, Hakuhinkan Toy Park Ginza, Tsukiji Food Market, Teamlabs). So we were after more of a convenient BASE than say a neighbourhood to wander around, as our little one doesn’t love a schlep and will literally stop in the middle of the footpath and refuse to keep going if he’s had enough 😂 🧺 LAUNDRY - no explanation needed for stays of 3 days or more with kids! 🍚 KITCHENETTE - not essential, but helpful for early kids breakfasts, and on some days you just want to get the onigiri and pot noodle from 7 Eleven and chill in-house! (I highly recommend this by the way!) 🛒 MINI-MART -Speaking of which, it’s very handy to have a little minimart close by for snacks, toiletries etc. And I’m actually obsessed with Japanese supermarkets. ☕️ COFFEE - no explanation needed! SO… all such things considered, we decided to stay at one of the @mimaruhotels Apartment Hotels which are very geared towards families, especially young families. They have lots of locations, so I told them where we planned to visit and they suggested the most convenient one for our itinerary. The 2 bedroom apartment we had in Tokyo ticked all of the above, but the kids favourite was in Osaka #BoardgameHotel . Comment MIMARU for the link to these hotels we stayed at☺️ If you’re traveling to Japan with kids, you NEED to know about @mimaruhotels These are apartment-style hotel rooms (which is rare in Japan), and they’ve truly thought of everything for families In Tokyo, we stayed at Mimaru Suites Tokyo Asakusa and the rooms were HUGE by Japan standards. We had a full 2-bedroom suite which made the biggest difference with two little kids, separate sleeping spaces, room to spread out, and it actually felt like we could relax at the end of the day. It was also super helpful for getting over jet lag! In Kyoto, we stayed at MIMARU Kyoto Shinmachi Sanjo and it was SO family-friendly. They had a play area right in the lobby (which was amazing for letting the kids get energy out), and the bunk beds were an instant hit. The apartment was HUGE in Japan standards and can comfortably house 4 people. This specific one we stayed at was MIMARU Ginza East. I don’t think all of the locations have the electric grill and shabu shabu pot to rent so make sure to double check!
