MIAt the United Nations Economic and Social Council 2026 session held at the United Nations Headquarters, Shameera Nasreen represented MIYC in the official programme titled “Asia and the Pacific | Youth Perspectives on Regional Development – Challenges, Priorities, and Actions for the SDGs.”
Her intervention focused on Malaysia’s model of youth engagement, highlighting the structured role of youth councils in fostering effective partnerships with government institutions. She emphasized that in Malaysia, youth councils contribute meaningfully to policy dialogue, support leadership development, and serve as formal mechanisms for integrating youth perspectives into national development agendas.
She further underscored that such collaborative frameworks are critical to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, as they promote inclusive governance and position young people as active stakeholders in decision-making processes.
