We’ve seen transformative progress in the care and treatment of MS, leading to advancements that make day-to-day life more manageable for the over 1 million people in the US living with it. But the truth remains: MS still has no cure and still takes up way too much space in people’s lives, often in ways you can’t see. Symptoms like fatigue, pain, cognitive changes and depression are invisible, but they shape every decision of daily life for people with MS. Even when its effects are invisible, MS is still there. This #MSAwarenessWeek, see MS for what it is.

No, I didn’t start medication, but I was very close when I experienced that flare (or relapse — who knows) a few years ago. I was barely able to walk or stand on my left leg. It lasted almost 4 weeks, and it was the scariest thing to experience just 3 years after my diagnosis. I didn’t take painkillers, and I’m not sure if they would have made a difference. What I did was increased my Vitamin D supplement and rested. I had faith that this was just temporary and that I needed to take better care of myself. I did gentle exercises at home when I could, I meditated, I took Epsom salt baths, and I went to bed every night praying that the next day I would be able to walk again. That experience taught me that we are stronger than we think and that everything — all the pain and suffering — is just temporary… And that our bodies are incredible and capable of healing. 🧡 #mshope #msawareness #ms #multiplesclerosissupport #multiplesclerosis

Happy MS Awareness Week! 🩷🧡 For those you don’t quite get this reel, when you have MS, your immune system mistakingly attacks the neurons in your brain and spine. This causes damage, called sclerosis, which creates a disruption in signals to the rest of your body. When I was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, there was a week where I couldn’t walk properly. My legs felt disconnected and heavy - like they no longer belonged to me. That week changed how I saw my body. It made me promise that I’d never take it for granted. So now, every time I lace up my running shoes, I remind myself: I don’t HAVE to run - I GET to run. That shift in mindset means everything. Running isn’t a chore. It’s a privilege. It’s a reminder of everything my body can still do, despite MS. I’m sharing this during MS Awareness Week to highlight the invisible challenges so many of us live with - and to celebrate the strength, resilience, and gratitude that come with every step. #MSAwarenessWeek #ThisIsMS #MultipleSclerosis #MS #MultipleSclerosis #MSAwareness #MSSymptom #ChronicIllness #InvisibleIllness #MSConversations

When you understand that when I'm in my chair I don't always need my chair. But if I don't have my chair, I will end up needing it🤷🏾‍♀️ It's actually so simple but it's something i have to explain constantly. Fatigue is my worst enemy!! My legs deteriorate pretty quickly when I do to much. I prioritise training which in turn means day to day stuff like walking round shops, standing to cook or even standing in the shower is exertion I just don't always have the energy for🫠 Living my best spoonie life🤙🏾 #multiplesclerosis #disabled #spoonie #disabilityawareness #chronicfatigue #wheelchair

In honor of MS awareness week (&month) Let’s repost- In November 2016, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. 🦋 One of the scariest parts of living with an autoimmune disease is the unknown. You never really know from day to day how your body will feel or if you’ll be able to function the way you want to. But I made a decision early on: I wouldn’t let it stop me. I would keep chasing the life I wanted for as long as my body allows. At one point, I didn’t even know if becoming a mom was the right decision for me. Now here I am, 9 years later.I got married.I opened my own storefront.I’ve taught students how to do lashes.I became a mom.I’ve traveled to conferences and started stepping into speaking and sharing my story. My goals now:✨ Teach as many people as I can how to do lashes✨ Become a licensed instructor in WA✨ Attend as many events as possible✨ Share my journey with others✨ Keep my salon thriving✨ And one day retire doing what I love This journey isn’t always easy, but it’s mine—and I’m not done yet. Follow along to see where it goes. 🦋 #multiplesclerosisfighter #mswarrior #smallbusinessjourney #chronicillnesswarrior

MS Awareness Week🧡 MS can make many activities difficult to participate in due to symptoms such as fatigue and weakness. Our therapists are wonderful at helping you learn adaptive ways to keep you involved in the things you enjoy doing! 🧑‍🍳 Our friend Barb loves to bake yummy treats however with her diagnosis of MS & the accompanying symptoms, it was becoming a challenging task to complete. In occupational therapy, she is working on her hand strength with functional “cooking” tasks to build her confidence! Using our adaptive utensils + Play-doh + a little FES to simulate the real deal, Barb set off prepping her “cookies”. 🍪 After the cookies have been rolled, shaped, pressed and baked, Barb worked on the last step - clean up! Using a flex bar to simulate wringing out a washcloth, she worked on increasing her grip & forearm strength to make sure she gets out every last drop. Looking good, Barb! Hopefully next time will be with real cookies. 😉 MS affects individuals in different ways & to different degrees.
