Nellie Tote Bag in the making and I’ve finally had the chance to try out some free motion quilting for the first time on my new @berninauk 570 sewing machine, purchased from @cowslipworkshops . I’m currently exploring and familiarising myself with alot of its features and I’m loving using it. I’ve also learnt that I need to wear quilting gloves for quilting on a sewing machine, but have already ordered another pair with a better fit!😉 #freemotionquilting #bernina570qe #quilting #freemotionquiltingpractice #freemotionquiltingpractice

Just keeping it real. Stitch in the ditch is my absolute worst nightmare. Besides, I’d really love to do more detailed designs than straight lines and I am pretty limited on my machine to just variations of lines with lines. I’m about halfway done hand quilting my first quilt and I am really enjoying the process. Do you hand quilt? Machine? Both? #quilting #handquilting #handquilted #machinequilting #sewnbyhand

Have you ever tried edge-to-edge quilting on your domestic sewing machine? It’s the fastest way to finish a quilt, but it’s always shown on a longarm machine. For us domestic sewing machine users it may seem pointless as it requires consistent spacing and direction. But with stencil markings it’s actually faster and easier to quilt as we simply have to follow the lines, no second- guessing our path. #machinequilting #freemotionquilting #quilting #quiltingforbeginners #jdreamquilts

This quilt started with hexagon-inspired piecing, full of sharp angles and sunshine yellows. Now the long arm is adding a completely different rhythm. Soft circles are wandering across the quilt, weaving around the geometric blocks and giving the whole piece movement and texture. It’s one of my favorite parts of quilting. The piecing creates the structure… and the stitching brings it to life. Watching those circles travel across the quilt never gets old. 🧵✨ #quilting #longarmquilting #quiltsofinstagram #machinequilting #makersgonnamake

Before you jump onto your quilt… practice your free motion quilting on scrap fabric first. It’s the fastest way to build muscle memory, test designs, and (most importantly) fix your tension before it actually matters. Because let’s be honest, most beginners think sewing machine tension is some kind of mystery… but it doesn’t have to be. I want to guide you to the point where finishing your own quilts feels exciting, not frustrating. That’s exactly why I created my 60 minute Mastering Machine Tension Workshop, so you can learn how to diagnose and fix your stitches in seconds. Check the first comment to save your seat.

Push quilting gives you full creative control and beautiful texture. Plus, on the Little Rebel, push quilting is so much easier with the built-in stitch regulator! Do you finish your quilts by push quilting? #longarmquilting #freeemotionquilting #quiltinglife #machinequilting #quilttexture

Usually I do straight line quilting with a walking foot whenever I do my own quilting, but every time I free motion quilt I think to myself: why don’t I do this all the time?! I love it. I find it very relaxing and hypnotic. I first learned to do free motion quilting pretty well on my old Brother sewing machine, but my quilting game definitely changed with the stitch regulator that came with my current Janome machine. It took a minute to get used to it (especially learning to take my time) but I’m now loving the results. The quilt currently on my table is the bed sized version of my Alcove pattern. This quilt pattern is 100% foundation paper pieced and is available in four sizes. Link to the pattern is in my bio!

Come watch me free motion quilt a placemat… Did you know that small projects like this are a great way to practice your quilting skills? You don’t have to invest in a large project that you worry about ruining as you learn and practice. But a placemat, usually 18”x 14”, is still large enough to practice and master a particular motif. Quilted on my table mounted @berninausa Q20. Thread is @habanddash glide 40wt. #qtquilts_handmadebydesign #openforcommissions #quilterforhire #freemotionquilting #berninalongarm
