NASA Artemis II Launch | First Crewed Deep Space Mission in 50+ Years 🚀 NASA has successfully launched Artemis II, marking the first crewed mission beyond low Earth orbit in over 50 years since the Apollo era. This historic mission is a major step in NASA’s Artemis program, designed to return humans to the Moon and prepare for future missions to Mars. Artemis II will test critical systems, including the Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SLS), ensuring astronauts can safely travel deeper into space. The mission represents a new era of human space exploration and long-term lunar presence. 🚁🔴 Ingenuity Found Perseverance's Landing Wreckage Ingenuity did more than prove powered flight on Mars; it later flew over the hardware that helped Perseverance survive landing. During Flight 26, the helicopter photographed the backshell, parachute, and debris field from a low aerial angle above Jezero Crater. This matters because entry, descent, and landing is one of the hardest parts of any Mars mission, and the discarded hardware keeps a record of what actually happened after the hypersonic arrival. Engineers could compare the condition of the parachute lines, backshell coating, and debris pattern against their models, including how the system behaved at roughly 12,500 miles per hour. The flight happened on April 19, 2022, more than a year after Perseverance touched down in Jezero. NASA said Ingenuity returned 10 color aerial images, giving Mars Sample Return planners a closer view than distant surface photos from the ground. The scene feels strange because it is not wreckage from failure; it is the remains of a successful landing system resting on another planet, spread across terrain the rover did not need to drive through. Future missions can use this kind of aerial reconnaissance to inspect risky terrain, hardware performance, and places a surface vehicle cannot easily reach safely. Artemis II Explained: The Mission That Will Change Everything Humans are finally heading back to the Moon after more than 50 years, and Artemis II is leading the way. This historic mission marks NASA’s first crewed journey to the Moon since the Apollo era, with four astronauts flying around the Moon in a 10-day deep space mission. While it may not involve a lunar landing, Artemis II is a crucial “test drive” to validate human survival, life support systems, navigation, and communication beyond Earth’s orbit. The mission will use the advanced Orion spacecraft to travel farther than any human has ever gone, even beyond the far side of the Moon. It also marks major milestones, including sending the first woman, first person of colour, and first non-American astronaut on a lunar mission. This is just the beginning. Future missions under the Artemis Program aim to land humans on the Moon, build the Lunar Gateway, and eventually use it as a stepping stone for Mars exploration. Artemis II isn’t just a mission, it’s the start of a new era in human space exploration and the next big chapter in the global space race. The race to the moon was one of the greatest displays of American innovation. Nearly 60 years since NASA sent the first humans to ever land on the lunar surface, the U.S. is going back. The space agency is launching a series of increasingly difficult return missions, known collectively as Artemis. The second of the missions, Artemis II, is hoping to launch in a few weeks. Four astronauts will embark on a 10-day journey traveling in NASA’s new spacecraft Orion out and around the moon. The goal is to pave the way for human exploration on the moon and future missions to Mars. Leroy Chiao, a retired NASA astronaut and former commander of the International Space Station, spoke with Horizons host William Brangham about the Artemis missions and the decision to go back to the moon in order to learn about Mars. “The reason we're going to the moon to learn how to do all these things is because we want to apply these lessons to a Mars mission,” Chiao told Brangham. Chiao added that while it is possible to fly directly to Mars first, "you are also taking more risk. And so what we're doing is buying down risk by starting on the moon.” He noted that there are a lot of “scientific reasons” to go back to the moon such as “learning how to operate a base on another planetary body” and how to “live off the land.” “A lot of reasons to go back to the moon, but this is a stepping stone,” Chiao said. “The plan was to first go to the moon, figure things out, and then move on to Mars.” Horizons from PBS News, dives into the science, health, technology and environmental issues making headlines each week. A powerful explosion at SpaceX’s Texas test site destroyed a Starship prototype during a critical static fire check, halting launch preparations and damaging Elon Musk’s ambitious 2025 timeline. The blast, which sent debris flying across the facility, has triggered an investigation and raised fresh concerns about the rocket’s safety. SpaceX engineers are assessing damage as Starship’s Mars mission hopes face renewed scrutiny after multiple failures this year.

Alyssa Carson is one of the most well-known young people associated with the dream of going to Mars. She became interested in space at a very young age and has spent years preparing—attending space camps, studying astrophysics, and training in programs connected to NASA’s outreach initiatives. She’s often called “Blueberry” (her call sign from space camp). There’s a popular claim online that she’s guaranteed to go to Mars or that she’s training for a one-way mission—but that’s not accurate. She is not officially selected as a NASA astronaut, and no confirmed Mars crew exists yet. What’s true: She has publicly said she wants to be among the first humans to go to Mars She has gone through various training experiences and educational programs She’s built a strong public presence advocating for human space exploration What’s not confirmed: Any official selection for a Mars mission Any plan for her (or anyone) to go on a one-way trip So she represents something real—but more symbolic: the next generation inspired to push human exploration beyond Earth. Meet Blue Origin's Mars Telecommunications Orbiter (MTO), a high-performance spacecraft built upon our existing and affordable Blue Ring platform that is ready to support NASA’s Mars mission in 2028. The orbiter builds upon Blue Origin’s Mars Next-Generation Relay and Mars Sample Return architecture commercial proposals and creates a high-speed telecommunications relay network for coverage between Earth and Mars. Our orbiter's hybrid propulsion, maneuvering capability, and capacity greatly expand the windows to get to the Red Planet. MTO also provides powerful edge and AI computing benefits to help with Mars science and exploration missions. Read more at the link in our bio.

At the Annual Ambassadors’ Conference of the German Foreign Office, EAM @drs.jaishankar says, India has changed enormously in the last decade. It is now a nearly $4 trillion economy with 8% growth prospects for decades to come. The pace of infrastructure growth is reflected in the construction of 8 new airports and 1 to 2 new metro systems annually, with 28 km of highway and 12 km of railway track laid each day. India records the highest number of digital financial transactions in the world, currently about 13 billion each month. It has the 3rd-largest startup ecosystem, with 117 unicorns. This is now an India of moon landings and a Mars mission, a prolific manufacturer of vaccines and medicines, and increasingly important to the global semiconductor industry and contract engineering. However, let me also be clear that there is still much for us to do and a lot for us to grow.
