LYAs a pro makeup artist, you know what I’ve noticed? As we get older, we start doing a few little things with our makeup that, bless us, just aren’t working anymore.
Let’s talk about the top 5 mistakes I see all the time (and how to fix them):
1. Skipping skincare before makeup.
Would you paint a wall without primer? Nope. Same with your face. Hydration first, it makes everything look better.
2. Neglecting the brows.
Filling in and shaping your brows can lift your whole face. It’s subtle, but powerful. Total game changer.
3. Still using the foundation you wore in your 40s.
Our skin has changed. Heavy formulas just settle into lines now. What we need is something lighter, dewier, and more forgiving. Cream foundation or a BB Cream is going to be more flattering.
4. Going overboard with powder.
A soft blur is fine, but too much powder makes us look dry and older than we are. It settles, it dulls. Less is more. I only recommend a light application of a fine translucent powder.
5. Thinking we’re “too old” for makeup.
Nope. You’re not invisible. You still deserve to feel beautiful when you look in the mirror. Makeup isn’t about hiding, it’s about enhancing what’s already there.
