ELI made a commitment to myself that I wouldn’t buy any books in 2025– I have three lifetime’s worth of books that I’d be perfectly happy reading and rereading. And I spent most the year dutifully reading from my shelves (ok, and the library).
Then I visited a new city in October and patronized a new bookstore and THIS just slipped into my hands.
I succumbed.
It’s gorgeous and comfortable to read.
Deckled edges… 😍
But it’s now February of 2026.
Way too much time spent on this.
I’m on chapter 60 of 78.
And my TBR list is breathing down my neck as I’m held hostage to finish it.
It’s weirdly good but dragging at the same time. By all accounts, I should love this book. It’s in my genre wheelhouse. Interesting characters. Multiple subplots.
But I need this done.
My brain is struggling to engage.
I’m the problem.
Maybe it’s a disordered guilt that won’t ALLOW me to enjoy it fully because I began this relationship all wrong…
The betrayal of my noble intentions wasn’t worth it, guys.
