๐Ÿง  Memory checking feels like problem-solving. It's not. If you've ever caught yourself rewinding a past conversation, searching it for proof that you said the wrong thing or that something is fundamentally wrong with you, that's memory checking. And it's one of the most exhausting OCD compulsions no one talks about enough. Here's the hard truth: your memory isn't a courtroom. It's not reliable, it's not objective, and the more you review it, the worse you feel. Not better. Jess Hayes explains why this happens and what to do instead. (Hint: the past isn't where the answer is.) Follow for more evidence-based mental health content. ๐Ÿค Good enough parenting is not a consolation prize. It is the goal. One of the most important things a parent can do for a child's long-term mental health is not grand or complicated. It is consistent and quiet. Laura Greenwood outlines what actually builds psychological resilience in children. Teaching them that all emotions are valid. Not managing feelings away or rushing to fix them, but allowing them to move through naturally. Helping a child understand that behaving badly in a moment does not make them a bad person. That mistakes are part of life, not a verdict on their character. And that at the very core of their experience, they are safe and loved. Many parents today are doing something quietly extraordinary. Supporting their children's mental health while simultaneously unlearning the patterns that shaped their own. That is not easy work. And it deserves to be recognised as such. Perfection is not the standard. Presence is. What is one thing you wish someone had said to you as a child about your emotions? Follow for more evidence-based mental health content. ๐Ÿง  The harder you try not to think about something, the louder it gets. It is one of the most frustrating paradoxes of the human mind. The impulse to get rid of an uncomfortable thought, to fight it, ignore it, or prove it wrong, is completely understandable. And it almost never works. Dr. Rebekah Tennyson continues to explain why. Suppressing a thought requires thinking about it first. And the brain, ever resourceful, can always generate the next "what if" to keep the internal argument alive. The struggle does not end the thought. It feeds it. She offers a different image. Imagine you are in a tug-of-war with a monster over a hole. You can pull harder, or you can lose ground. But there is a third option that most people do not consider. Drop the rope. The monster, the uncomfortable thought, may still be there. It may even follow you. But your hands are free. Free to focus on the people, the goals, and the things that actually matter to you. The cost of the battle is not just exhaustion. It is everything you could have been paying attention to instead. What would you do with your energy if you were not spending it fighting your own thoughts? Follow for more evidence-based mental health content. #mindfriend #mentalhealth #anxiety #ACT #wellbeing

๐Ÿง  You are not lazy. You are stuck in a cycle that keeps resetting itself. It starts with impossibly high standards. Which leads to feeling overwhelmed. So you put it off. Then comes the guilt, the sense of falling behind, the pressure building again. And the whole thing starts over. Dr. Natasha Wallace breaks down why this perfectionism and procrastination loop is so common, particularly in high-achieving women and mothers, and more importantly, how to interrupt it. Lower the bar from perfect to good enough. A completed task will always be more valuable than an unfinished one. Start with a single step, or just two minutes. Not to build momentum, but simply to avoid shocking yourself into inaction. Notice the inner critic. That voice telling you that you are not enough is coming from fear, not fact. And celebrate small wins. Not as a reward, but because your nervous system needs to feel safe before it can move forward. The goal is not to push harder. It is to create enough safety within yourself to take the first step at all. What does your perfectionism procrastination loop tend to look like? A lot of people didn't understand OCD back then. And to be honest, many people still don't. Our latest therapist on MindFriend knows this firsthand. She grew up living with OCD at a time when it wasn't recognized, wasn't talked about, and definitely wasn't treated the way it deserved to be. It wasn't until her early twenties that she finally got answers. A diagnosis. A path forward. And instead of leaving it behind, she turned it into her life's work. She's now an integrative therapist in London, specializing in OCD in teenagers and adults, because she knows exactly what it feels like to navigate this alone. And she believes no one should have to. Did you grow up knowing what OCD actually was, or did it take you years to find out? Follow for more evidence-based mental health content. ๐Ÿง  Meet Dr. Melody Smith. Clinical psychologist. Advocate for neurodivergent individuals. And someone who believes that understanding behaviour starts with curiosity, not control. Dr. Smith works with children, adults, and parents navigating autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and behavioural needs. Her approach centres on a method she created called the Steamer Method, designed to help people understand the factors driving behaviour rather than simply trying to manage it. She also runs Aspiring Clinical Psych, a platform offering resources, mentorship, and a membership community for those working toward a doctorate in clinical psychology. Her work with MindFriend is rooted in a shared goal. Making psychology more accessible and more relatable to the people who need it most. ๐Ÿง  Your mental health doesn't stay in your head. It shows up at work when you talk yourself out of going for the promotion. It shows up in your relationships when you say yes to things you didn't want to agree to, because somewhere deep down, you're afraid that saying no means losing people. It shows up when you pull away completely, just to protect yourself from being hurt first. Limiting beliefs don't just live in your thoughts. They shape your decisions, your boundaries, and the opportunities you let yourself take. What's one thing you've talked yourself out of lately? Follow for more evidence-based mental health content. ๐Ÿค Being a good mother does not mean disappearing into the role. There is a deeply ingrained belief that good motherhood looks like sacrifice. That putting your own needs aside is not just expected but required. Dr. Romila Ragaven challenges that directly. Prioritising your own needs is not a distraction from being a good parent. It is part of it. A parent who is depleted, burnt out, and running on empty cannot consistently show up as the parent their child needs. Taking care of yourself is not selfish. It is foundational.
