Lose the weight. Get fit. It’s true what they say: it will change your life. And not just your body. In a society where discipline has been labeled “toxic,” I actually think living in a body you aren’t confident in and one you don’t take care of is far more toxic. Takeout every weekend, drinking multiple times per week, skipping workouts, not being intentional with your nutrition…That’s “YOLO.” But the second you decide to eat well, move your body, and build better habits… it’s, “they’re obsessive” or “they think they’re better…”🙄 I’ll tell you what was wrong with me: It was never knowledge or know how. It was my excuses. I blamed “big bones” + “athletic build”. My kids. My work. Anything and everything, except my lack of accountability. There is a direct correlation between my happiness, confidence, boundaries, and work ethic when I’m out of shape vs. when I’m fit, and I know it’ll be the same for you. Now? I’ve never been more confident in who I am or what I bring to the table because I did the work. I became confident when I became consistent. Your body is the one thing you can’t buy. It takes effort. It takes time. It takes consistency when motivation is gone. And when you build discipline in one of the hardest things to do (the thing most people quit) you start believing there’s nothing you can’t handle. I don’t think my body is the best thing about me and I don’t think your body is the best thing about you. Here’s the part that doesn’t trend: 🧠 Low muscle mass is associated with higher all-cause mortality. 💪 Studies show people with higher strength levels have 20–40% lower risk of death from all causes compared to those with low strength. 🦴 Muscle protects your bones, your metabolism, your brain, and your INDEPENDENCE. Skinny doesn’t protect you from: – insulin resistance – bone loss – injury – frailty – or losing your independence later in life Strength does. Alright yallll… let’s talk overhead marches… a movement I see PLASTERED all over the internet 😅 And it’s often missing some key visuals that can change the game for this move ⬇️ I’m purposely butchering this at first to show you how small things can completely change how this exercise feels 👀 1️⃣ Rib flare If the ribs are flared, we lose the stack between the ribcage and pelvis. That means pressure isn’t managed as well and the core feels disconnected. Stack the ribs over the pelvis so the thoracic + pelvic diaphragm can actually work together when you breathe. 2️⃣ Shoulder shrugging If the shoulders are creeping up toward your ears, you don’t have stability on the backside. Depress the scapula. Create space in the neck. This is HUGE for shoulder stability and for being able to actually move load. And let’s be real… if 5 lbs overhead feels challenging, it’s usually not the weight — it’s the lack of stability. 3️⃣ Elbows flaring wide This often happens when we shrug and lose backside support. Keep the biceps by the ears, elbows closer to midline, and everything stacked and tight. 4️⃣EXHALE as you march. Connect your breath to the movement! When these four things are dialed in ⬇️ ✨ Better core engagement ✨ Better pressure management ✨ More stability ✨ Ability to handle MORE load with better connection Same movement. We added banded assisted rectus training during pregnancy (yes, during)—something I didn’t use in earlier years but can't believe we weren't always doing this.  (I know I wish I'd thought of it back when I was having kids!  My abs do too!) She’s easing back into running, feeling confident, and rebuilding core control in a way that actually makes sense for her body. But then her pregnancy/postpartum-trained-trainer hesitated when she mentioned she was already doing assisted sit ups. Not because of pain. Not because of symptoms. But because the trainer said she wasn't taught to do that so soon. Here’s the thing: so many postpartum exercise restrictions weren’t born from data… they were born from fear.  And even though the science has evolved, those old rules are still echoing in fitness spaces, getting passed around like expired advice in a pretty package.⁠ But our patients? They’re the ones changing the game.  When we teach them the “why,” they become the conduit—bridging the gap between clinicians, trainers, and the postpartum community to help push care forward. ✨ Outdated rules don’t serve healing bodies. But lately, I’ve been surrounded by some seriously incredible women in this sport. Women who are strong, fearless, and absolutely killing it. And instead of feeling discouraged, I feel inspired.They’ve shown me what’s possible. They’ve encouraged me, supported me, and reminded me that there’s room for all of us to grow, push, and show up. But here’s what hit me recently, I already am that woman for someone else. For the moms on the sidelines who tell me they wish they could try but feel too scared.
