‼️FYI this isn’t a sponsored post - I’ve documented everything to share with you all as I know how daunting this process is, and there isn’t much information out there when deciding what options to go for. I’ve paid full price for all adaptations and my car too‼️
The prices onscreen are the subsidised prices for @motabilityscheme adaptations and are correct as of early 2025. Note, these are additional costs to the price of your car itself.

FAGrowing up I ALWAYS wanted a yellow convertible car… sadly the reality of my disability meant that wasn’t going to happen 🤣 BUT the fact that I can stay in my @quantumrehabuk wheelchair and drive my car in it, is just the best thing! I honestly couldn’t live my life without both of them!
My wheelchair has a tilt feature and I tilt it forwards all the way to get into the right position for driving and I have a lockdown clamping system called Q’Straint. My wheelchair has been independently tested by Q’Straint and is compatible, this is what locks my wheelchair at the bottom to keep me safely in the right place in my car.

AM#AD 6 years ago I thought I would never be able to drive again but, with the help of the @motabilityscheme , all that is about to change as VERY soon I’ll be picking up MY OWN car. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, my legs are paralysed… I will be driving the car completely with my hands! The technology that I was able to choose from was amazing! This is truly life changing and I can’t wait for my new found freedom!

SEToday we visited @peugeotnewark and ordered Leylas new car through the @motabilityscheme
This is a scheme which enables disabled people and there families to lease a car, using there mobility disability element of there DLA or PIP.
For Leyla it enables Leyla to access the world including days out, holidays, medical appointments & school, when public transport just isn’t an option.
We have chosen a Peugeot Rifter, as it meets Leyla’s needs so much better than our current car seat.
With Leyla’s new SEN car seat from @newlifethecharity and @schuchmann_uk when we are unable to get a disabled parking spot, it makes getting Leyla out the car very tricky at times.
But with sliding doors, a bigger boot this is going to be life changing for us all.
A huge thank-you to @peugeotnewark who were lovely and explained everything to us, from driving an automatic for the first time, to discussing everything about Motability.
One thing I love about Motability is only having to worry about your fuel source, and that everything else is covered.

WHI posted a video where someone blocked me in, making it difficult to get my wheelchair in the car.
Naturally, instead of talking about accessibility or basic decency, the comments turned into:
🫠 “How can a disabled person afford a car like that?”
🫠 “I’ve worked 40 years and don’t have a car like this – why am I paying for yours?”
Let’s clear a few things up:
- Disabled people pay taxes too. Shocking, I know.
- Having a disability doesn’t mean you’re banned from earning money or having nice things.
- Some of us work, run businesses, or have stable incomes, because disability and capability aren’t mutually exclusive.
- Some of us are unable to work, but that doesn’t always mean we don’t want to.
- Motability cars aren’t free. Motability Operations is a business, not a charity. Google their profit margins and how much they’ve made over the years (despite recent reports of pre tax losses last year). And remember, not every disabled person qualifies for or uses the scheme.
- Many of us buy cars privately, because that can actually be cheaper these days.
- We’re still dealing with inaccessible housing, transport, and constant systemic barriers, with more to come with the proposed benefit reforms making life even harder for disabled people to live comfortably and integrate into society.
So before you begrudge a disabled person for existing with dignity, ask yourself:
Would you be saying the same if it were you?
Ps I urge people like this to stop reading tripe media like the S*n and the Daily Fail.
