Take a walk with me. Long post ‼️ I get a lot of messages about Multiple Myeloma and while I try my best to address as many as I can, I thought it’s time to share a few of my personal insights on my MM journey. 1. Treating multiple Myeloma is like running a marathon - not a sprint. Accept that this will be a long road with lots of opportunity to learn- though sometimes it will be hard. 2. Find the right doctor. You are not only a patient - you are a customer. You have every right to ask questions about your treatment, interview the medical professional and keep looking for the right doctor. I went with a different hematologist than the one who diagnosed me because I needed someone who would be a cheerleader and optimistic about my chances. 3. Once you have your medical team, put together your Healing Team. Become the CEO of your health. 4. The root cause of disease should be addressed. A shift in mindset, personal development work to address old traumas and often a change in patterns and lifestyle is crucial 5. HOPE 6. With luck and some faith, walking this path can help you face your fears, find meaning, connect with what truly matters and transform your life into a richer, deeper experience. Consider yourself very fortunate if thats the case. Not everyone makes it. (Thats another topic entirely) Not everyone evolves through cancer or grows in positive directions. This journey takes PATIENCE AND HOPE No shortcuts or hacks that I know of. Just the hard, deeply human work of facing the abyss. Cancer is scary. I have come to understand healing is holistic and lifelong. What would you like me to discuss next? I can only share my own anecdotal experience, I cannot share medical advice 🙏 Wearing gorgeous @mishalakhani kaftan #MultipleMyeloma #52andthriving #MMsurvivor #lisaray

Check out 5. Here are five symptoms that can be cancer-related but often have benign explanations: As an oncologist, this is simply how my mind works. Every symptom I mention has non-cancerous causes — but persistent symptoms deserve attention. Here’s what I watch for… 1. Persistent back pain. While most back pain is musculoskeletal, it can occasionally signal cancers like multiple myeloma, pancreatic, ovarian, lung, breast or spinal tumors, especially if it’s new, unrelenting, worse at night, or doesn’t improve with typical treatments. 2. Unexplained weight loss. Losing 10 pounds or more without trying can be a red flag for various cancers, though it’s also common with stress, thyroid issues, diabetes, or other non-cancer conditions. 3. Fatigue that doesn’t improve with rest. Cancer-related fatigue is often profound and persistent, but it’s also one of the most common symptoms people experience from dozens of other causes including anemia, depression, or sleep disorders. 4. Changes in bowel or bladder habits. Persistent diarrhea, constipation, blood in stool or urine, or changes in urinary frequency can indicate colorectal, bladder, or prostate cancer, but are far more often due to infections, hemorrhoids, or benign conditions. 5. Persistent cough or hoarseness. A cough lasting more than a few weeks or voice changes that don’t resolve can suggest lung or throat cancer, particularly in smokers, but are much more commonly caused by reflux, allergies, or post-viral irritation. The key is persistence—symptoms that don’t resolve with typical treatments or that progressively worsen warrant medical evaluation to rule out serious causes. Join for more. Prevention is important to me. Always talk to your personal doctor for your medical advice. #wellness #prevention #earlydetection #healtheducation #ListenToYourBody

Remission feels weird. I wish my dad could share this with me. He sat in these chairs, drove the same commute, and endured about 47 rounds of chemotherapy. Multiple Myeloma is one hell of a beast. Doctors marveled at my father’s strength and perseverance as he outlived his 1 year life expectancy by 6 years. The greatest gift he ever gave me? His playbook on how to show up on you hardest days while fighting cancer, and win. He died victorious. 🏆✝️🪽 #vulnerablepost #breastcancer #remission #cancersurvivor

When Sara Glenn was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38, she soon realized it was just the beginning of her journey. Genetic testing revealed that she and her family have Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) — an inherited condition caused by a TP53 gene mutation that dramatically increases the risk for many types of cancer, including breast, bone, brain, and blood cancers. The impact of this diagnosis deepened when Sara learned that her father, who has been battling multiple myeloma for 17 years, and both of her young daughters also carry the same mutation. Facing her own diagnosis was difficult enough, but discovering that her father and children share the same inherited risk brought a new level of heartbreak, as Li-Fraumeni syndrome now affects every generation of her family. For families like Sara’s, knowledge truly is power. Ongoing care and vigilance are essential, and genetic testing helps families understand their risks and take steps to protect their future. If you have a family history of cancer, ask your doctor about genetic testing. It’s an important step toward early detection and peace of mind. City of Hope is helping Sara’s family navigate this journey together.

There’s real progress happening in multiple myeloma. At a recent meeting, the International Myeloma Society brought together scientists and clinicians from around the world to answer a big question: What does a cure in myeloma actually look like? Reaching consensus in healthcare is not easy. But when it happens, it helps researchers design better trials and move treatments forward faster. And for patients, it brings us one step closer to real answers.
