1 in 6 people on this planet are impacted by infertility.  It’s infertility awareness week, and I share my own battle because it was one of the most difficult times in my life. I was full of questions, doubts, fears, and emotions.  So, together with my friend Angela, CEO of @JoinSunfish, we are on a mission to support as many people as possible in their path to parenthood. With Sunfish’s iconic “Gold Program” you can actually protect your IVF journey before you start, with a money back guarantee. 🥇 It’s a game changer and we’re hoping to get the word out to as many people as possible! Share this to your stories, and help be a part of our mission. #intfertilityawarenessweek #infertilityawareness #surrogacy #infertility #1in6 #fertilityjourney #niaw #niaw2024 #ivf #ivfjourney #infertilityadvocate #infertilitywarrior #infertilitysupport #ivfcommunity #ivfwarrior #ivfsupport #ivfsisters #infertilitycommunity #infertilitystruggles

Infertility is #morethan than just the struggles to do everything to have one, but also the struggle of secondary infertility that can follow. It’s the hard decisions your family has to make and to what you want to sacrifice financially and emotionally. It’s learning to be at peace that one is enough despite how often the thoughts and questions that come up so so often and will probably for years to come. Infertility may be part of the story but it’s never the whole story. In honor of National Infertility Awareness Week #NIAW and @resolveorg just remember infertility doesn’t look one way, you aren’t alone it the process, and it sure as hell doesn’t define you 💜 #infertility #IVF #secondaryinfertility @progynyinc

This week is National Infertility Awareness Week—a time to recognize and honor the many women and families walking through infertility, loss, and long, complex journeys to build their families. As such, I thought this week would be fitting to sharing a small piece of my own story. When my husband and I first started trying to have children, we were ready. Excited. Hopeful. And I just assumed it would happen quickly. But month after month passed without a positive test…and that excitement slowly turned into heartache, concern, and fear. There were moments I wondered if it would ever happen for us. Not in our timing—but in time, it did. And now, looking at my daughter, I can honestly say she has been better than I could have imagined. But here we are again. Praying for another baby. Waiting longer than we would have hoped. Holding both deep gratitude… and deep longing at the same time. This season has given me a deeper compassion for women walking this road in ways I didn’t fully understand before. For those facing infertility. For those navigating treatments and unknowns. For those who have experienced the loss of a baby. For those whose path to motherhood looks different than they expected. Your pain is real.Your waiting is heavy. And your story matters. For me, this season has looked like choosing to trust God’s timing—not because it’s easy, but because I’ve seen His faithfulness before and I know He’ll remain faithful through whatever lies ahead. This is also part of the heart behind Nurtured Nest. Because behind so many babies and families…there is a story. A season of waiting. A journey that matters. If you’re a place of waiting right now—you are not alone. One resource that has been especially meaningful to me in this season is Waiting in Hope devotional. It’s been a gentle place to process, pray, and hold onto hope. To all the Mamas in waiting out there-I’m praying for you this week—wherever you are in your story 🤍

Six years ago, I did a deep dive on #nationalinfertilityawarenessweek (which is the month during April 21-27). While I know more now, and I might use different language today (like, I wouldn't say my infertility journey is over), I definitely think that the message still holds true today. More of us are struggling with infertility. Infertility is a disease. It impacts men and women equally. Infertility is being politicized. So many ways to build a family are under fire, whether you're going through fertility treatments like IUI or IVF or are considering adoption. I have a bias because I'm a mom who used IVF to build my family-- I realize that. But I hope sharing these facts and sharing a personal story helps people have more empathy for one another regarding a deeply personal decision. After this aired, I got hundreds of responses and well wishes from women and men sharing their stories of struggle and hope. I will never forget that I also received a scathing email from a woman who said I had no right as an adoptee to build my family this way -- just incredible people can be so sure of themselves about someone they've never met. None of us knows what each other goes through behind closed doors. No one realizes the struggles we endure or the challenges we overcome. I hope this speaks to someone who may be enduring and struggling and may want to feel less alone. I am so glad I could share my experience in 2018. I don't know if I would have the same opportunity in today's climate, but I don't regret it and am so thankful I could. #IVF #infertility #infertilityawareness #motherhood #adoption #NIAW @resolveorg

Infertility is unfortunately on the rise. When Kyle and I started our journey 1 in 8 people were affected by infertility. Today 1 in 6 people worldwide are affected. Do you personally know someone that has struggled to have a family? I wrote my book “Fighting Infertility” to give couples a raw & honest look at the infertility journey. It was something I craved years ago when every month produced yet another failed test. I longed to feel heard and understood at a time when many weren’t talking about these issues. I knew I wanted to write something that would make others know they were not alone in their journey and feelings. There were many times my publisher even asked if I was sure I wanted to include so much, but the honest truth is that infertility is ugly and hard so all the mess stayed. I wrote this book for anyone who is going through the heartbreak of infertility to remember that although it sometimes feels like you’re alone on an island, there is a huge community behind you 🧡 #NIAW #NIAW2024 #LeaveYourMark #Infertility #InfertilityAwareness # miscarriage #ivf #pcos #surrogacy #ivfawarness

“Examining PTSD as a Complication of Infertility”, @medscape ✔️Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is diagnosed in patients with persistent psychiatric distress resulting from events involving actual or threatened death or injury. ➡️Subsequent to the trauma, victims experience feelings of intense fear, helplessness, or horror. ➡️The precipitating trauma sets in motion a series of physical and emotional reactions that can have major and long-lasting effects. ➡️The characteristic triad of PTSD symptoms include (1) persistent re-experiencing of the event, (2) avoidance of reminders and numbing of responsiveness, and (3) increased arousal. ➡️Psychologically, PTSD is characterized by a classic triad of intrusive, avoidant, and hyperarousal symptoms. ✔️The stress of trying to overcome infertility and trying to manage a high-risk pregnancy have been linked with triggering stress responses associated with PTSD symptoms. ✔️When PTSD develops in response to infertility or other adverse reproductive events, patients exhibit the classic triad of symptoms described above. ➡️They may re-experience the trauma as nightmares, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts about distressing procedures or pregnancy loss. ➡️Symptoms may manifest as extreme distress under seemingly innocuous circumstances, such as seeing a pregnant person, menstruating, or visiting the doctor’s office; these types of occurrences may trigger a recollection of the infertility battle or mark an anniversary of events in the struggle to conceive and/or to complete a difficult pregnancy. ✔️Avoidant symptoms include hesitance to discuss the trauma or to engage in any activities, thoughts, and feelings connected with infertility, pregnancy, or childbirth. ✔️Outbursts of anger, severe concentration difficulties, and an exaggerated startle response are seen in addition to physical manifestations of anxiety. ✔️The clinician who sees any patient during the course of an infertility work-up or treatments should be vigilant regarding any symptoms suggestive of PTSD. #niaw #infertilitytrauma #infertilityptsd #infertility #ptsd

I know what it is like to be in the infertility trenches: The guilt. The sadness. The confusion. The anger. The heartbreak. When I received methotrexate for that ectopic pregnancy, I was at the lowest of low. But the forced "break" from trying (you can't get pregnant for 3 months after methotrexate due to the risk of birth defects since methotrexate blocks folic acid uptake and cell division) gave me space and motivation to prioritize my health, for me and not just for a pregnancy. I started researching natural fertility and the impact the lifestyle can have on our reproductive health. I started talking about fertility on social media 9 years ago because I realized that most patients who came to see me lacked basic information about how their reproductive system worked, and I hoped that if I could reach them earlier, perhaps I could change the trajectory of their course. In a world where misinformation is rampant and the political climate is uncertain, it is more imperative now than ever that women take ownership for understanding their bodies. And my mission here - to help put you in a position of power so that you understand the basics of your body, you know how to advocate for your health, and you understand that infertility is a disease. Sharing your story is power. You will inspire more people than you know. To all of you sharing your own story: you are brave and vulnerable and inspiring. Thank you. #niaw #infertility #pregnancyloss
