NSW SES is proud to unveil our new fleet of high clearance vehicles and light flood rescues that have been purpose-built to enhance our response in some of the most challenging and hard to reach environments. As part of the Minns Labor Government fleet replacement program to strengthen flood rescue operations across NSW, these new vehicles have been rolled out to help fill critical capability gaps where traditional assets are less effective. Purpose-built for flood and emergency conditions, the vehicles feature: 🔸 High mobility and compact design 🔸 Ability to tow small boats 🔸 Access to heavily flooded roads, steep terrain, and fire trails What makes this rollout even more special is the collaboration behind it - custom-designed with input from our volunteers, operational experts, and manufacturers, ensuring they meet the specific needs of our frontline crews. These new additions will enhance our ability to reach isolated communities, respond faster, and ultimately, save more lives 👏 Read more on our website! (Link in bio)

I feel like I can finally breathe again. When I say it’s “over” I refer to the cyclone threat, as this weather event is ongoing for many people. It’s still raining in some places, and flooding is now the big issue for many across southeast QLD and northeast NSW, with river rises in the coming days/weeks. We’ve had no power, internet etc, so I’m sorry if I haven’t responded to messages over the last few days. I’m just catching up on things now and want to thank you for your support, I just love this community 🫶 I especially want to do a shout out to the incredible emergency crews and first responders from ( NSW SES, firies, Marine Rescue etc!) that have been out and about ready to help, and the many, many volunteers that have been putting their own lives and families on hold to help people they don’t even know. You are HEROES🫶 This was a very challenging experience for me. I studied the weather charts and models and knew the likely course of events each day. I also understood the improbability of a big shift in track or acceleration in intensity. Yet all of that rational thinking struggled to surface in the night, in the murky depths of anxiety induced by winds sounding like a freight train, with no power or internet to check what was happening! It was a sensory overload 😵‍💫 and quite different to the floods of two years ago. But we dodged a bullet. And here we are. Still standing. As resilient as ever. ❤️

Tomorrow is Wear Orange Wednesday, a day to give thanks to NSW SES volunteers. More than 1600 are out in the Hunter and mid-north coast dealing with storms and floods right now. They are part of a 12,000 strong volunteer army who give up their time to support the community. Think about wearing a dash of orange as a vote of thanks for our incredible volunteers.

CURRENT WARNINGS  The Bureau of Meteorology issued an update on the MINOR FLOOD WARNING for TUGGERAH LAKE at LONG JETTY, with it likely to persist until Saturday (flood warning number 4, 1 May, 9:26am).  ⚠️The NSW SES ‘WATCH AND ACT: DO NOT ENTER FLOODWATER for CHITTAWAY BAY is still active (10.47am, 1 May). View full warning: https://hubs.la/Q03knj3M0   🚨For emergency assistance in storms or flooding, call NSW SES on 132 500. If life-threatening, call 000 (Triple Zero).   🌊 TUGGERAH LAKES – ENTRANCE CHANNEL STATUS  • The Entrance Channel remains open. We continue to remove sand from the primary channel - which has been significantly widened, with a strong flow of water out of the Lake.  • Tuggerah Lakes (Long Jetty and The Entrance) is at 1.007m AHD (12:15pm 1 May 2025). The minor flood level is 0.9m.  • The secondary pilot channel is not yet opened. Consideration is still being given to attempting an opening of the pilot channel to help alleviate flood impacts despite relative lake height and chances of channel operating effectively, being low.   LAGOONS • Cockrone and Wamberal Lagoons water levels have reached intervention trigger levels, and staff are progressing plans to open. • Terrigal and Avoca Lagoons both remain open.   COASTAL EROSION NOTICE: The Entrance North and Wamberal   🌊 Ocean conditions with large swells have caused further coastal erosion. ⚠️Erosion has caused landslips at some private beachfront properties and steep sand escarpments. Debris is also observed in a number of beach locations. Advice is to keep personal safety front-of-mind and:   ⛔Avoid areas impacted by coastal erosion, sand loss or water damage.   ⛔Stay away from beach escarpments, and do not intentionally collapse eroded beach escarpments - this is both dangerous and could cause further risk to properties in the immediate area.     🚧Slow down and take care on roads.
