A tender love letter to his wife, Pegi, celebrating long-term love, enduring commitment, and nostalgia. Written to celebrate their marriage, it contrasts youthful passion with a mature, settled romance. The lyrics evoke a dreamy, romantic atmosphere, often interpreted as a tribute to surviving life's challenges together Neil Young released Harvest Moon in 1992, inspired by a reunion with his longtime partner Pegi Young. Recorded in Nashville, the song became a standout track from the album of the same name, marking a return to his earlier acoustic style and showcasing a more reflective, romantic side of his songwriting. Over 50 years later the song remains a staple of Neil young’s catalog 🇨🇦 🍁 Written by Neil Young in the days following the Kent State massacre on May 4, 1970, “Ohio” was quickly brought to David Crosby, Graham Nash, and Stephen Stills. The band recorded the track live off the floor in just a few takes at Record Plant in California. Released as a single only weeks later, the group rushed the release of the song “Ohio” delaying the previously recorded singles from their album Déjà Vu, which had been released just months earlier. Despite already having a hit on the charts with “Teach Your Children” from Déjà Vu, the success of “Ohio” further cemented Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young as one of the most popular groups of 1970. Joining Crosby, Stills & Nash in the late summer of 1969, Neil Young expanded the band’s harmonies and songwriting depth while adding a sharper folk-rock edge. Together, the group released three studio albums with Young between 1969 and 1999. • Young said about the massacre “it’s probably the biggest lesson ever learned at an American place of learning” • Rolling Stone ranked it among the top 10 protest anthems of all time • David Crosby allegedly cried in the studio following the songs first take due to the songs tragic content 🎸: Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young 💿: Released as a single in 1970 🎥: Golden Gate Park, 1991 📌: Los Angeles, California #neilyoung #crosbystillsnashandyoung #ohio #canada

Old Man by Neil Young (Canada) was released in 1972 on the album Harvest, during one of the most important periods of his career. By the early 1970s, Neil Young had already built a strong reputation through his work with bands like Buffalo Springfield and later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, becoming known for his deeply personal songwriting and distinctive guitar style. The early ’70s marked a turning point for Young, as he moved toward a more acoustic and introspective sound. Around the time he recorded Harvest, he had purchased a ranch in California, which influenced the quieter and reflective mood of many songs from that album. Harvest itself became one of the best-selling albums of his career and helped define the sound of early ’70s folk rock and country rock. This period established Neil Young not only as a rock musician but also as a storyteller whose music reflected personal experiences, rural life, and changing times in America. . . . #neilyoung #oldman #jamestaylor #lindaronstadt #folkrock

Neil Young’s Old Man is rooted in a reflective and deeply personal story about perspective, aging, and the unexpected similarities between generations, emerging in 1972 during the creation of Harvest in Nashville. The song was inspired by a real encounter Young had with an older caretaker on his ranch in Northern California, where he found himself comparing his own life as a young, successful musician to that of the man who had lived a much longer, simpler life. Through this interaction, Young began to realize that despite differences in age and circumstance, they shared the same emotional core—uncertainty, loneliness, and the search for meaning. Musically, the track is built around gentle acoustic guitar and subtle instrumentation, allowing Young’s fragile, introspective vocal delivery to carry the weight of the message. The lyrics move between observation and self-reflection, blurring the line between the “old man” and the narrator, suggesting that time doesn’t fundamentally change who we are inside. It’s this blend of personal inspiration, lyrical honesty, and understated arrangement that cements “Old Man” as one of the most iconic and definitive songs about aging, identity, and human connection. “Old man, take a look at my life I’m a lot like you were” Released in 1972 on Harvest, Old Man feels like a conversation across time. Not just between two people but between who you are and who you’re becoming. Written by Neil Young (born 1945, Toronto), the song was inspired by an actual caretaker of his Northern California ranch. But it never stayed that simple. It turned into something far more universal. Because the “old man” in the song isn’t just him. It’s all of us, eventually. What makes this track unique is its stillness. Acoustic guitar, soft rhythm, nothing excessive. Even the harmonies (famously supported by members of James Taylor’s circle during the Harvest sessions) feel like they’re there to hold the moment, not elevate it. Lyrically, it’s disarming in its honesty. There’s no distance, no ego. Just recognition. The quiet realization that life moves faster than we expect, and the lines between youth and age blur before we’re ready. “I’m a lot like you were” isn’t nostalgic. It’s confronting. It’s about seeing your future in someone else’s present. About understanding that time doesn’t ask for permission, it just keeps going. Fun fact: Harvest became one of the best-selling albums of the 1970s, and this song remains one of Neil Young’s most enduring and emotionally resonant pieces. Some songs, they just understand you better over time. #OldMan #NeilYoung #Harvest #ClassicRock #FolkRock

“Heart of Gold” — written by Neil Young — tells the story of a man worn down by love, still searching for something real. It’s a quiet, vulnerable confession wrapped in one of the most recognizable melodies ever recorded. Through lines like “I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold”, Young captures that restless hope of finding someone who truly understands you—before time slips away. The song came together almost by accident. A back injury forced Young to step away from his electric guitar, leading him back to a stripped-down acoustic sound that would define Harvest. While recording in Nashville, fate stepped in again—Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor happened to be in town and ended up lending their voices, adding a warm, timeless depth to the track. Decades later, “Heart of Gold” remains a universal anthem of longing—covered by artists like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and many more—each drawn to its honesty, simplicity, and the feeling that maybe, just maybe, that heart of gold is still out there. #heartofgold #neilyoung
