Comment “TRAINING” to get my free e-book on applying these Soviet nervous system principles. I learned this overspeed oblique drill from my mentor Nick Curson back in 2016, and it’s still one of the most underrated movements in nervous system training. The athlete lies supine while a coach throws the legs downward, forcing the obliques and transverse abdominis to rapidly stabilize and reverse direction. That creates a fast eccentric stretch through the trunk followed immediately by reflexive recoil. This is the same principle Dr. Yuri Verkhoshansky outlined in his plyometric research — rapid eccentric overload at velocity followed by immediate force reversal. It’s not slow grinding core work. It’s timing and elasticity under speed. Traditional core training builds endurance and static strength, but it doesn’t train the nervous system to absorb and redirect rotational force under chaos. This drill directly targets the rotational sling system, building anti-rotational strength and oblique reactivity while protecting the spine. Over time, it improves rotational speed, shock absorption, and dynamic trunk stability — critical qualities in combat sports, throwing, and high-velocity movement. Program it for 3–5 sets of 4–6 throws per side. Focus on speed, rhythm, and clean reversal, not fatigue. This is how you build elastic trunk control instead of just tighter abs. #sportsperformance #martialarts #strengthandconditioning #athletictraining #combatathlete

I’ll say it again … I know I’ve said it before, but core activation and training need to be a part of your training if you have back pain. Core exercises themselves will not fix the pain. For one, you can do all the core exercises in the world. If you don’t activate your core and brace down, it’s not going to get you to where you want to be. Core activation requires mind to body connection, attention, and concentration (at first at least.) You can learn to activate your core one of many ways. Here are 3. 1- feel by your hip bone and then cough or laugh; a muscle should pop into your fingers 2- imagine zippering your core all the way from your pelvic floor to your ribs 3- brace as if someone was going to come after you Second, core strengthening alone will not fix back pain because core strengthening is just part of the puzzle with back pain, which also includes nervous system training, mobility training, and so much more! Comment “core” to learn more!

Nervous system training I really am intrigued with systems like Marinovich and Schroeder since they focus on things traditionally gets missed out on You won’t find training methodologies like these in any standard textbook, and to me that’s what makes it so fascinating I understand the thought process behind it, and really could help develop athletes that “twitch” they would never get with weight training MMA guys seem to love this style and jts no surprise why. You can see a direct response to this type of work and then going right into sparring. Your feeding your brain and body fast inputs, where heavy barbell lifting could hinder that at times This post is inspired by @quintin.torres36 on the @justflysports podcast and really makes me want to dive even deeper in this rabbit hole Rhythm, timing, fluidity, training the feet, training the brain, coordination, and elasticity All things I never had🤣 Hitman Out🫡

What if your strength isn’t the problem… but the communication behind it is? 👀 Most people train muscles. Very few people train their nervous system. When you perform opposite hand + foot coordination drills, you’re improving motor control, cross-body integration, and the way your left and right sides work together. Your nervous system is responsible for: • recruiting muscle fibers • timing and sequencing movement • balance and stability • transferring strength into real-life motion If your brain and body aren’t communicating efficiently, your strength won’t fully translate — no matter how heavy you lift. Coordination drills may look simple, but they challenge your motor patterns in a powerful way. This is how you build strength that actually carries over into lifting, sport, and everyday life. Strong isn’t just about muscle. It’s about control. ✨ ⬇️ 💾 Save this and add 2 sets before your next lift 💬 Comment “CONNECT” if you want to move smarter not harder. 🔗 Link in bio for more movement + nervous system training #nervoussystem #motorcontrol #nervoussystemsupport #mindbody #CrossBodyCoordination

Facts... Reposted from @fmasportstraining The nervous system training I learned at @speedofsport is an absolute evolution in the science of human performance training as a whole. It’s changed my life and my body in ways that I thought weren’t possible. It’s helped thousands of kids become what we label “talented” athletes “natural” “freak athlete” “gifted”. A select few coaches in the world know the secrets of true athletic performance training and the methodology developed by the Soviet Union and Marv Marinovich. In time this will change the landscape of sports forever. . . . . . . . #sports #sportstraining #sportsperformancemichigan #speedtraining #strength #strengthandconditioning #speedtraining #footwork #footworkdrills #basketballtraining #mma #womansmma #ufc #weightloss #mmatraining #diet #womansfitness #combatsports #basketball #youthbasketball #basketballtraining #youthstraining #speedtraining #kidsperformance #plyometric #plyometrictraining #nervoussystem #jumptraining #ncaa #ncaafootball #proathlete #agility #agilitytraining

**Nervous System Training for MMA and Boxers Why It's the Hidden Engine Behind Elite Explosiveness, Lightning Reactions, and Unbreakable Fight Endurance.** In the brutal arena of MMA and boxing, raw muscle size or cardio alone rarely decides victory—it's the **central nervous system** (CNS) that orchestrates everything from blinding hand speed and devastating knockout power to razor-sharp timing, reflexive defense, and the ability to stay composed when fatigue screams quit; elite fighters train this neural command center deliberately through explosive plyometrics, heavy compound lifts at low reps with max intent, contrast training (heavy + light), Marinovich-style unconventional drills that demand instant coordination and balance, isometric holds for tendon stiffness and neural firing rate, and high/low periodization that alternates CNS-crushing high-intensity days (sparring, max-effort power work) with low-intensity skill refinement to let the nervous system wire perfect patterns without overload. This approach skyrockets **motor unit recruitment**, ramps up **rate coding** for faster, more forceful contractions, boosts neural drive for snap in punches/kicks/takedowns, sharpens reaction time under chaos, enhances movement efficiency by teaching the brain to redirect force rather than resist it, and builds parasympathetic resilience so fighters recover faster between rounds and avoid the dreaded "nervous system breakdown" that turns skilled athletes into slow, predictable targets when pressure peaks. Far beyond traditional gym grinding, nervous system training transforms fighters into more adaptive, explosive, and mentally unbreakable versions of themselves—proving that in combat sports, the real fight is won in the milliseconds between brain signal and muscle action, and those who master the nervous system don't just train harder, they fight smarter, hit harder, and last longer when it matters most.

Most people today are stuck in fight or flight. Mind racing. Body tense. Nervous system constantly switched on. One of the simplest ways to reset this is through a breathing pattern called the physiological sigh. Research from Andrew Huberman and his team at Stanford University has shown this breath can rapidly calm the nervous system during moments of stress and anxiety. But beyond the science, I’ve seen it first hand. For the last 6 years I’ve guided tens of thousands of people through breathwork sessions and watched their bodies and minds shift from tension back into calm. That’s why we created The Calm Club. A community of people practising together and learning how to regulate the nervous system through: • breathwork • fascial manoeuvres • nervous system training • subconscious reset practices Returning the body to its natural state: calm. If you’d like to experience it, comment CALM and I’ll send you the link.

NERVOUS SYSTEM TRAINING??? Quick one today. I don’t know if it’s just my feed, but lately I’m seeing more and more posts on Instagram about “nervous system training.” That immediately raises two basic questions. What do people actually mean by nervous system training? And just as importantly, what training is not nervous system training? Every form of training involves the nervous system. Sprinting does. Strength training does. Skill work does. Recovery does. The nervous system is always involved, so the label itself doesn’t really help us understand what’s going on. The issue shows up when a broad mix of ideas—coordination, variability, attention, timing, speed, sports-specificity, reactivity—gets wrapped in vague nervous system language. That doesn’t create clarity. It creates the illusion of depth. A lot of what’s shared under this banner leans on phrases like “imprinting the nervous system,” “lighting up the CNS,” or “optimizing firing patterns.” They sound scientific, but they’re rarely tied to clearly defined mechanisms, measurable adaptations, or specific outcomes. That’s where the real problem sits. It’s not that creativity, intuition, variability, and reactivity don’t matter. Of course they do. It’s that they’re often discussed without any clear account of what is being loaded, what is changing, or what should improve as a result. If we want to move forward, we need better structure for how we think about training. A way to move cleanly from intent to outcome, without hiding behind labels. That’s what I’ll get into next.

Headstand in the cold is more than a challenge - it’s nervous system training. ❄️🧠 When you invert the body, circulation shifts and focus sharpens. 🔄 When you step into cold exposure, the body activates and the breath becomes your anchor. 🌬️ Together, they build resilience. 💪 They teach you how to stay steady under pressure. How to breathe through intensity. How to regulate instead of react. Inversion strengthens the shoulders, core, and mental focus. 🧘‍♀️ Cold exposure supports vascular tone, recovery, and alertness. ❄️🔥 Both demand presence. This is where strength meets stillness. ⚖️ Where stress becomes training.
