Here’s a clip from one of our patrollers last season! Our team walks the shoreline at sunrise searching for one very important sign: turtle footprints. These tracks help us locate new nests so we can mark, monitor, and protect them throughout the season.
This work matters because every nest we find gives about 100 (average) hatchlings a safer chance to reach the ocean and every hatchling brings us one step closer to a thriving sea turtle population here in Okinawa. 💙✨

JUIt’s way too early around here for baby crows to be calling out to be fed, and yet I heard begging calls.
This is a female crow calling out to her mate to bring her food — and he is obliging. They’re rehearsing for the time coming up shortly when she’ll be sitting on the eggs in the nest for a couple of weeks and relying on him to bring her food. It’s only the female crow that can incubate the eggs because she develops a brood patch for the season — an area on her belly where she loses feathers, allowing the heat from her body to pass more efficiently to the eggs.
This is the best time of year to tell your male and female crows apart — seeing which of them exhibits this “begging” behaviour and then seems to disappear for about 18 days while sitting quietly on the nest.

As our beaches become nurseries for these incredible creatures, here are some simple but powerful ways you can help protect sea turtles and their hatchlings:
1️⃣ Keep beaches dark, clean & flat.
🟠 Use amber lights instead of white ones.
🪑 Remove trash,chairs & beach gear.
🕳 Fill in any holes!
2️⃣ Give space to nesting turtles. Stay behind her and stay quiet.
