This may look strange at first... But, this simple test checks for the Spinal Galant Reflex โ€” one of the most commonly retained primitive reflexes we see in kids with ADHD, sensory issues, and focus struggles. ๐Ÿ‘ถ This reflex should go away in infancy, but if it sticks around, it can cause: โŒ Constant squirming in chairs โŒ Sensitivity to tags, clothes, or touch โŒ Bedwetting past toddler years โŒ Struggles with focus and emotional regulation When we gently stroke along the lower back and the child twitches or shifts, itโ€™s a sign the nervous system is still reacting like itโ€™s in survival mode. ๐Ÿง  That means the brain is using energy to manage reflexes instead of learning, focusing, and regulating emotions. ๐Ÿ’ก But hereโ€™s the good newsโ€ฆ You can start rewiring the brain and integrating these reflexes naturally โ€” at home! ๐ŸŽ‰ We just launched our brand-new Primitive Reflex Community, where you get: โœ… Step-by-step video tutorials for testing & exercises โœ… Support for ADHD, sensory processing, autism & more โœ… Discounts on all our products โœ… New trainings added every month โ€ฆall for just $20/month! Did you know? When kids squeeze a ball between their knees, they activate deep core and hip stabilizers โ€” the same ones that prevent W-sitting, flat feet, and poor posture later on. ๐Ÿง  Add in balance + eye-hand coordination like this, and youโ€™re not just โ€œplayingโ€ โ€” youโ€™re building neuromuscular pathways for better focus, body control, and confidence. โœจ Save this game if your child: โœ”๏ธ W-sits โœ”๏ธ Has flat feet or knock knees โœ”๏ธ Struggles with coordination โœ”๏ธ Has trouble focusing or fidgets a lot ๐Ÿ‘ฃ Itโ€™s fun. Itโ€™s screen-free. And it works. ๐Ÿ’ก Want more proven exercises like this? Check out my โ€œHealthy Posture and Feetโ€ program โ€” used by families to improve core strength, balance, and alignment at home. ๐Ÿ“ฒ Link in bio to start.

This child isnโ€™t just playing. Theyโ€™re rewiring their nervous system. ๐Ÿง  The prone position on the spin board directly challenges the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) which is a primitive reflex that, when retained, affects focus, coordination, muscle tone, and emotional regulation. Add graded vestibular movement (the spinning) + a visual perceptual task (sorting by color) + motor planning and execution (reaching, grasping, placing)โ€ฆ And youโ€™ve got MULTI-SYSTEM integration happening in real time. This is how we create lasting neurological change at NeuroNest. We donโ€™t isolate skills. We layer challenges strategically so the brain learns to integrate multiple systems under functional demand. When a retained primitive reflex is blocking development, we have to create the RIGHT neurological challenge to help it integrate. This is what neuroadaptiveTM intensive therapy looks like. ๐Ÿ‘‰ COMMENT โ€œREFLEXโ€ to learn more about our comprehensive reflex assessments and intensive programs #primitivereflexes #reflexintegration #TLR #pediatricOT #occupationaltherapy #sensoryprocessing #vestibularprocessing #childdevelopment #neuroplasticity #intensivetherapy #neurologicaldevelopment #neurodevelopment #pediatrictherapy

This may look strange at first... But what youโ€™re seeing is called the Starfish Exercise, and itโ€™s not just movement โ€” itโ€™s a brain-based technique designed to help kids who are struggling with: โžก๏ธ ADHD โžก๏ธ Autism โžก๏ธ Anxiety โžก๏ธ Emotional outbursts โžก๏ธ Sensory overload โžก๏ธ Focus and learning issues ๐Ÿง  The Starfish works by targeting the Moro Reflex โ€” one of the earliest survival reflexes babies are born with. If this reflex doesnโ€™t go away (or โ€œintegrateโ€) as a child grows, it can keep the nervous system in a constant state of โ€œfight or flight.โ€ That means: Overreactions to sound, light, or touch Trouble calming down or sitting still Random outbursts or tantrums Sleep issues and trouble focusing โœ… The Starfish exercise mimics the startle response, then teaches the brain how to calm and reset. โœ… It helps regulate the nervous system, build better body awareness, and promote emotional stability. โœ… Just 2 minutes a day for a few weeks can make a BIG difference โ€” especially when used consistently as part of a brain-based routine. ๐Ÿ’ก Want to learn exactly how primitive reflexes affect your childโ€™s brain and behavior โ€” and what you can do at home to help? ๐ŸŽ We created a FREE Primitive Reflex Guide that explains everything and includes simple, science-backed exercises just like this one. ๐Ÿ‘‡ Comment โ€œINFOโ€ and weโ€™ll send it to you! I remember thinking no screentime was going to be hard, and weโ€™re 2.5 years inโ€ฆ But what I feel grateful for is that lack of screentime for the babe meant way less TV/phone/computer for me! And I have no idea what heโ€™d be like if we did do screens but I can tell you I havenโ€™t yet had to deal with a single meltdown after taking screens away. And that alone makes me never wanna start ๐Ÿ˜‚ Weโ€™ll get there some day and o canโ€™t wait to watch a movie together! Until then, we now have more books than shelve space and a kid that just wants to play outside. โœŒ๐Ÿป And disclaimer here is that I donโ€™t have older kids that introduce screens to the little one. I left my career to be home and play so I donโ€™t need screens as distraction for my ability to get stuff done. I donโ€™t go out a ton where screens can be a lifesaver for keeping chaos down in confined pibkic places. You get the gist. I made my personal choice that works for us based on a lot of the developmental data I read. And every family will be different and make choices right for them. #noscreens #optoutside๐ŸŒฒ #bluelight #redlight #neurodevelopment #brainhealth #toddlertantrums

These simple-looking exercises are actually brain-builders in disguise. โœจ Cross-lateral coordination โ€“ Key for reading, writing, and organized movement โœจ Core stability + limb control โ€“ Critical for posture, focus, and endurance โœจ Proprioception โ€“ The brainโ€™s ability to โ€œmapโ€ the body in space โœจ Bilateral integration โ€“ The foundation for tying shoes, using both hands, and even emotional regulation Neurodevelopment isnโ€™t something we grow out of โ€” itโ€™s something we build from the ground up. ๐Ÿ’› Thatโ€™s exactly what my Healthy Posture & Feet program does โ€” it turns movement into developmental gold. If your child runs like a โ€œdrunk giraffeโ€ ๐Ÿฆ’๐Ÿ’จโ€ฆ letโ€™s talk about dyspraxia. Dyspraxia (also known as Developmental Coordination Disorder) affects how the brain plans and coordinates movement. Kids with dyspraxia often: โ€ข Look uncoordinated or clumsy โ€ข Struggle with tasks like buttoning shirts or tying shoes ๐Ÿ‘• โ€ข Have poor balance or difficulty catching a ball โšฝ๏ธ ๐Ÿง  Whatโ€™s happening in the brain? There are three key areas we often see involved: 1๏ธโƒฃ Cerebellum โ†’ coordination & smoothness of movement 2๏ธโƒฃ Motor Cortex โ†’ planning and executing actions 3๏ธโƒฃ Parietal Lobe โ†’ body awareness and spatial processing โœจ Simple ways to support these areas: โ€ข Cerebellum: Try โ€œFloppy Fishโ€ โ€” how smooth can your child wave their arms side to side? Or play weaving games using your arms as an obstacle. โ€ข Motor Cortex: Play Scissorsโ€“Paperโ€“Rock โœŒ๏ธโœŠโœ‹ โ€” great for planning, reaction, and sequencing. โ€ข Parietal Lobe: Do โ€œheavy workโ€ โ€” gymnastics, lifting, crawling, brushing with a therapy brush, or even pushing/pulling games. When we combine activities that engage all three brain areas, coordination, focus, and motor planning can improve dramatically over time. #Dyspraxia #ChildDevelopment #OccupationalTherapy #MotorSkills #Cerebellum #Neurodevelopment #ParentTips #BrainBasedTherapy #primitivereflexes #reflexintegration
