Follow (us) @InterestingAF to learn something new everyday! 🤝 A nuclear bomb releases energy by exploiting reactions in an atom’s nucleus, where enormous forces are stored. In one type, fission, heavy atoms split into smaller ones, releasing energy and additional neutrons. Those neutrons trigger more splits in a rapidly multiplying chain reaction, converting a small amount of mass into a vast amount of energy according to Einstein’s equation E = mc^2. In another type, fusion, light atoms combine to form heavier ones, releasing even more energy—the same basic process that powers the Sun. In both cases, the energy is unleashed almost instantly, producing extreme heat, intense radiation, and a powerful blast wave. The effects come in several stages. First is a blinding flash and intense heat that can ignite fires and cause severe burns miles away. Next is the blast wave, created by rapidly expanding superheated air, which can flatten buildings and structures. Finally, nuclear radiation is released, both immediately and later as radioactive fallout, which can contaminate the environment and pose long-term health risks. While the physics behind nuclear weapons is rooted in fundamental atomic science, their destructive power is why their use and spread are tightly controlled and widely regarded as one of the most serious threats created by modern technology. #science #nuclear #interesting #reels

The Demon Core Incident 😈 However, there was another accident: The other fatal incident involving the Demon Core occurred on August 21, 1945. Physicist Harry Daghlian was conducting neutron reflecting experiments on his own. The core was already placed within a stack of neutron-reflective tungsten carbide bricks. Daghlian accidentally dropped a tungsten carbide brick onto the plutonium core, causing it to go supercritical. He quickly removed the brick but received a lethal dose of radiation. Daghlian died 25 days later from acute radiation poisoning. #ScienceCommunication #Physics #NuclearScience #STEM #DemonCore #ManhattanProject #ScienceFacts #ScienceHistory

Witness the Power of the Atom! This is what it looks like when a nuclear reactor powers up — a breathtaking and intense process that unleashes the energy stored in atomic nuclei. The bright blue glow you see is called Cherenkov Radiation, a phenomenon that occurs when charged particles travel faster than the speed of light in water. Nuclear energy is one of the most powerful and efficient sources of energy on Earth. It's used to power cities, spacecraft, submarines, and more — with zero carbon emissions during operation. This is science, engineering, and pure energy in motion. Bu an, modern nükleer enerjinin doğduğu andır. ⚛️ #NuclearReactor #FissionReaction #AtomicEnergy #CleanPower #PhysicsInAction #NuclearScience #EnergyRevolution #Engineering #FutureEnergy #Innovation #ScientificBreakthrough #Technology

How a Nuke Works 👇🏻 A nuclear bomb releases energy by changing atoms. 💣 When atoms split or join, a huge amount of energy is released in a very short time ⚡ This energy becomes extreme heat, bright light, and a strong shockwave 💥 That’s why the explosion causes massive damage. Same science as nuclear power — but released all at once, making it very dangerous ☢️ #HowItWorks #NuclearScience #WorldNews #NorthKorea #Japan #GlobalTensions #Geopolitics #Defense #WarExplained #ScienceFacts #animation #reels #america #ww3 #world #worldwar3 #worldwar #war

The phenomenon where intense radiation heat leaves behind a shadow occurs due to the differential absorption and reflection of heat. When an intense heat source, like a blast or strong light, hits an object, the object blocks the heat from reaching the area directly behind it. This creates a shadow-like effect where the surface behind the object remains cooler compared to the surrounding areas that were directly exposed to the heat. The contrast between the heated and unheated areas results in the visible “shadow” left behind by the object.
