As a BCBA and business owner, I used to think of clinical work and business management as two completely separate worlds. But the truth is, there is so much overlap.
In ABA, we collect data, analyze trends, and evaluate interventions to drive behavior change. In business, we do the exact same thing… we just call it something different. We look at revenue trends, KPIs, cancellation rates, and staff retention. We measure what matters.
When we see a problem, we don’t just guess. We assess. We look at the variables. And when the data tells us that a change is needed, we have the perfect framework for it.
Kurt Lewin’s Unfreeze-Change-Refreeze model maps perfectly onto our science. We analyze the baseline and establish motivating operations (Unfreeze), implement the intervention with training and feedback (Change), and then reinforce the new systems to ensure they maintain over time (Refreeze).
My business degree gave me the language and the frameworks… like understanding the difference between strategic, tactical, and operational planning. But behavior analysis gave me the tools to actually make them work.
