When I strapped on the new @omega Speedmaster Grey Side of the Moon, I didn’t quite expect to feel transported—but I did. This isn’t just a watch, it’s an experience. Inspired by the Apollo 8 mission and Jim Lovell’s understated yet iconic observation—“the Moon is essentially grey”—this 2025 release brings a cleaner, more mature evolution to the DSOTM lineup.
Omega has long made the lunar link a core of its identity, but here, it’s done with impressive subtlety. The 44.25mm case in brushed and polished grey ceramic immediately sets a tone—stealthy but refined, technical but not overly aggressive. It wears surprisingly well for its size thanks to the thinner 12.97mm profile and 50mm lug-to-lug length. On the wrist, it feels like a tool watch built for someone who appreciates design nuance.
The dial is a showstopper. Instead of a traditional face, Omega leaves the movement visible through a laser-ablated surface that mimics the Moon’s terrain—yes, it’s a skeletonized dial, but in the most purposeful way I’ve seen. The grey-toned hands and applied markers, filled with Super-LumiNova, keep legibility sharp. There are no yellow Apollo accents or gimmicks here—just a consistent, lunar palette that echoes Lovell’s words. The engraving on the caseback—“The Moon is essentially grey”—is a poetic final touch.
Inside, the hand-wound calibre 3869 delivers serious horological muscle. It’s METAS-certified, anti-magnetic to 15,000 Gauss, and features a co-axial escapement and 50-hour power reserve. You can see the blackened movement beneath the sapphire crystal caseback, continuing the dark, stealthy motif.
On the wrist, the grey textile strap is both rugged and elegant. The folding clasp, crafted from ceramic and titanium, blends in flawlessly.
This Grey Side of the Moon delivers on Omega’s promise of pushing technical innovation while honoring their deep-rooted history in space exploration. It’s not just another Speedmaster—this one feels like it was made to be worn by someone who’s already been to the Moon and back.
