LISTEM OPT Applicants: Is your I-983 correct? 🛑🇺🇸
Most STEM OPT applicants make THIS one mistake on the I-983 form and end up getting a correction back request from DSO or if they over seen it may lead to RFE 😬

The Common Unknown Mistake:
In Section3 of Form I-983, For Start Date of Employment, many students unknowingly put the date they first started working for their employer (back on initial OPT) or their original OPT start date. This is wrong.
The Correct Way:
The “Start Date of Employment” on the I-983 for a STEM extension must be the start date of your STEM OPT period (usually the day after your current EAD expires) or the date you begin your STEM training with that employer.
Why it matters:
Your DSO need the training plan dates to align with the extension period. If the dates don’t match, it looks like a discrepancy in your employment history, and they will ask for clarification. 📑📉
