I’m trying to fake it till I make it but I’m still not there 😂 My favorite part is the smell of an antique store. To me it smells like an amalgamation of a thousand old homes and attics and garages. Smells like old books and nostalgia and grandparents and history. Smells like childhood and The Never Ending Story and playing hide & seek in your cousins basement or your grandads old office. I wish I could bottle up this smell and have it for premenstrual days when all I wanna do is dwell in the past and cry about how I can never have it back. 😭😂 Maybe I am there and now, I officially like walking around in antique stores all day, just to smell. We often get asked why we don’t wear gloves when handling rare books and paper-based material.

The industry standard adopted by most libraries around the world is to simply wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Gloves can reduce your dexterity, making it easier to tear pages accidentally.

When working with special collections, our librarians, curators and conservators carefully assess each item to ensure it’s handled safely. In some cases, when the books are decorated with metal clasps or delicately bound, sulfur-free nitrile gloves are usually recommended. 

Gloves are also used when handling some items such as photographic negatives, metal objects, and fabric or textiles.

They have been sitting on a shelf in my home. I finally decided to use them in a terrarium design. As I was thumbing through one of the books, a surprise slipped out. A postcard.
