Nothing resets the nervous system like hiking up a mountain with everything you need for survival on your back. We are so used to traveling around with our creatures comforts with us at all times, it’s one of my favorite things about living in a van! But I’ve found that sitting in that comfort for too long leaves me feeling stagnant and uninspired. I didn’t make any New Year’s resolutions, but we did make one goal. Go on at least one backpacking trip every month this year💫 so far so good!

KE3 things I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older to help keep me grounded:
1) When to stop, take a pause and acknowledge that life has been HEAVY. Days, weeks and months have gone by where I don’t know how I’m feeling about the world, my place in it or can even start to understand what going on some days.
2) How to recharge, bring myself some joy and where to find the purest sources of it; friends, family, nature, workouts.
3) When you don’t know what to do next, get outside and/or help someone in need. Sometimes even just spending time with someone else besides your own brain.
Here’s a little joy and a glimpse of the solo camping trip I took recently in @glaciernps.

OH🚵♂️ West Branch’s New Mountain Bike Trails Are Open — Take a Look! 🌲
West Branch State Park recently rolled out more than nine miles of brand-new singletrack, expanding the trail system to over 19 miles of rideable terrain. Thanks to ARPA funding and our long-standing partnership with the dedicated volunteers of Cleveland Area Mountain Bike Association, riders can now explore a fresh network built for every skill level.
The new system connects beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails in a smooth stacked-loop design, creating a more seamless natural-surface experience with fewer on-road connectors and more deep-woods mileage. Whether you’re out for a quick loop or an all-day ride, there’s a route that fits your pace.
Located on the park’s south side, these trails wind through rolling terrain and offer some great lake views—solidifying West Branch as one of Ohio’s premier mountain biking destinations.

~486 miles | ~4–6 weeks
From Denver to Durango, this one’s a classic for a reason. Big passes, long stretches above treeline, and enough access points to towns that it actually works with a set amount of PTO or a well-timed leave.
🏕️ Long Trail (Vermont)
~273 miles | ~2.5–4 weeks
The OG thru-hike. Shorter, rugged, and surprisingly demanding, but doable in a month or less if you’re ready. Green tunnels, mud, and maple-flavored treats the whole way!
🗻 John Muir Trail (California)
~211 miles | ~2–3 weeks
Short by thru-hike standards, huge by any other metric. High Sierra after High Sierra, and one of the few world-class trails you can knock out in a long vacation (permits willing).
Make sure to save this for later! It’s proof that you don’t need to disappear for half a year to do something life changing!
