☦️The word “Orthodox” comes from Greek: orthos (“straight,” “correct,” or “true”) plus doxa (“belief,” “worship,” or “glory”). It means “right belief” or “right worship.” Orthodox Christians believe their Church is the unbroken continuation of the one, holy, catholic (universal), and apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ and the Apostles. Preserving the original Christian faith without the additions or subtractions that occurred in the West after the Great Schism. Orthodoxy emphasizes that faith and the Church are inseparable, you encounter Christ most fully within the living sacramental life of the Church, guided by the Holy Spirit. #christianity #orthodox #orthodoxchristian #orthodoxy #easternorthodox

In the Orthodox Church, lighting a candle is not for atmosphere or vibes. It’s a small, visible prayer. The flame confesses that Christ is the Light: “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12) It reminds us what we are called to become: “Let your light so shine before men…” (Matthew 5:16) The Church also gives us a deeper meaning through the teaching of Saint Symeon of Thessaloniki. He explains that the candle speaks to the purity of the heart (pure wax), the soul’s softness and readiness to be formed by the Gospel, the fragrance of divine grace, our calling toward theosis as the candle feeds the flame, the light of Christ shining into darkness and the love and peace that should characterize a Christian life. We also light candles for people we love, for the sick, the departed and those who have no one praying for them. It is a quiet act of love, offered to God. So next time you light one, don’t rush it, say a name and “Lord, have mercy.” Or “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on your servant (insert name of the person you are praying for)”. Let the flame remind you: even a small prayer, offered sincerely, rises to God. ☦️ #orthodox #orthodoxy #orthodoxfaith #orthodoxchurch #orthodoxchristian

Saint Anthony the Great (c. 251–356), the father of Christian monasticism, emphasized humility, vigilance against temptation, and love for neighbors, urging Christians to “live as dying daily”. His teachings, often focused on spiritual warfare, advise resisting evil thoughts through scripture and regarding “our life and our death is with our neighbor”. #orthodoxy #orthodoxchristian #easternorthodox #easternorthodoxchristian #orthodox

“Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner!” The Jesus Prayer is very short, yet deeply powerful, practical, constant, and the most effective weapon against the devil, while at the same time the most direct way to live in communion with Christ. The power of the Jesus Prayer lies in the Name of Jesus Christ, before whom demons tremble. When the heart and mind are filled with Christ’s Name, the enemy finds no place to act. By saying “have mercy on me, a sinner,” pride is crushed - the very foundation of the devil’s power. This prayer burns demonic influence like fire through divine grace. Saint Paul commands: “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) The Jesus Prayer fulfills this command. Saint Gregory Palamas also teaches that when God is not active within us, anything we do is sin. For this reason, a Christian must practice unceasing striving and longing toward God. This prayer is the expression of fervent faith and desire, saying: “Lord, I do not want a single second of my life without You.” When a Christian begins to practice the Jesus Prayer sincerely, through God’s mercy he will discover the hidden heaven in his heart and he would never want to stop praying anymore. However It is strongly recommended to practice the Jesus Prayer under the guidance of a spiritual father. Without guidance, a person can easily fall into pride, imagination, self-deception, or spiritual imbalance - thinking that he reached some level in spiritual life. The Holy Fathers provide guidance on how Jesus Prayer should be practiced. Their experience is crucial and must be shared, because the Jesus Prayer is not a method invented by individuals, but a living tradition of the Church. #orthodoxchurch #orthodoxy #orthodoxchristian #christianity #jesusprayer

Forgiveness is one of the hardest things Christ asks of us. Not because the words are difficult to say, but because real wounds leave real pain. To forgive does not mean calling evil good, ignoring injustice or forcing yourself to feel no hurt. In the Orthodox life, forgiveness is deeper than emotion. It’s the decision to stop feeding hatred and to place the pain into God’s hands. Christ says “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” (Matthew 6:14) These words are difficult because forgiveness is not only about the other person. It’s also about what bitterness does to our own soul. When anger, resentment and hatred remain in the heart, they slowly harden it. We begin to carry the wound everywhere we go, allowing it to shape our thoughts, peace and even our relationship with God. This is why Christ, even while on the Cross, prayed “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34) He shows us that forgiveness is not weakness, but love struggling against hatred. It’s about refusing to let darkness take root in the heart. The saints teach that forgiveness is part of healing. Saint Silouan the Athonite wrote that the soul cannot have peace while holding hatred against another person, because God Himself is love. Forgiveness does not always happen instantly. Sometimes it’s a daily struggle, a prayer repeated over and over again before God. But every step toward forgiveness frees the heart a little more. To truly forgive is to stop letting the wound separate us from love, peace and communion with God. It’s not about hating the sinner but the sin itself. Everyone has their own weaknesses and battles and we don’t know what they are going through. As Christ forgives, so must we forgive. “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” ~ Ephesians 4:32 ☦️ #orthodox #orthodoxy #orthodoxfaith #orthodoxchurch #orthodoxchristian

Death is not the end but a transfiguration—the soul’s passage from this world into eternity. We should not fear death itself, for Christ has conquered it by His Resurrection. What we rightly have the fear of is the Judgement - standing before the Lord. “It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” - Hebrews 10:31 It is terrifying not because God is harsh or cruel, but because He is perfectly humble, meek, and full of love. His holiness exposes our pride and His gentleness itself becomes unbearable to us if we are prideful and unrepentant. We would neither desire nor be able to bear such love and humility and stand before such love, such humility. Therefore The more we lack humility, the harder it is for us to stand in His loving presence. Thats why the Orthodox Church calls us to vigilance, humility, and continual repentance, so that death may become a meeting with Christ, not a separation from Him ! #orthodoxy #orthodoxchurch #orthodoxchristian #christianity #bibleverses
