Carrying their kit, navigating their own routes and working together as a team, it’s a big step on the journey towards completing their Silver Award.

🌻We are a fully outdoor nature school in Houston and we just finished our first year of Preschool!
Our each and every day was filled with exploring, learning about our environments, observing nature changing around us and celebrating each and every change!🌳
A full academic year later, we have a group of resilient children who do not believe such thing as bad weather exists, who can identify “weeds”, hold so much empathy for the tiniest creatures and feel fully at home in nature!

BROur nursery children are currently learning about penguins, and this week their learning was brought to life during forest school in Brambletye’s School in the Woods.
Inspired by how penguins move, our teachers created a gentle mud slide, inviting the children to slide down on their bellies just as penguins do. What followed was a lot of laughter and children joyfully covered in mud!
Forest school and outdoor learning give children the opportunity to be fully immersed in nature. Through experiences like this, children develop their physical skills, strengthen coordination and balance, and engage in sensory play. Being outdoors allows them to explore with their whole bodies, build resilience and form a connection with the natural world.
Muddy clothes, curious minds and happy children - just as childhood should be.

BRForest School sessions at Brambletye’s School in the Woods are always child led, allowing the children’s interests and ideas to guide their learning. On Tuesday, Pears and Plums Classes headed down to the woods, where some eagerly embraced the mud slide, while others chose a quieter creative project inspired by their current topic of birds.
Working alongside our Forest School teacher, Mrs Thorne, the children set about making robins from tree branches. They were carefully guided in sawing the branch and then shaping it into a bird by striking an axe held securely by Mrs Thorne. This process supported the development of gross motor skills, coordination and confidence, while also encouraging patience and focus.
Once their wooden robins had taken shape, the children turned their attention to painting the robin’s familiar red breast, using bright red paint under the guidance of Mrs Ellis. For the finishing touch, each bird was given a small beak, created using a palm drill and foraged materials from the woodland floor.
Activities such as this provide opportunities for creativity, problem-solving and hands-on learning, all within a safe and supportive Forest School environment. By working with real tools and natural materials from the woodland, the children connect with nature while developing practical skills and a strong sense of achievement.
