thinking that my husband would stay clean and sober forever just because he had years of recovery under his belt especially when the hard truth and the heartbreaking reality of addiction is that relapse is a part of recovery and 40-60% of people in recovery will relapse at some point for the longest time, i lived in blissful denial of the fact that one of us statistically would end up falling back into the vices we leaned on for so long i felt in my heart that we both had overcome that life’s joys and beauty would be enough that building a family a life together chasing our dreams would keep us both on the road to recovery and i hate that i was so wrong i often times wish i would of been more aware more active more gentle but i had my own recovery and mental health to tend to as well and i truly did my best which is more than enough even tho my best sometimes tricks me into thinking i’m partially responsible for his death now days i regret not telling him even more how deeply loved he was how i deeply admired every part of who he was how important he was to so many people i regret that i didn’t scream at him to fight even harder that recovery is possible that we can overcome if he could get out of his own way to stay to please just stay that he is so wanted by all of us no matter what his mind by telling him i regret that i didn’t continually remind him i forgive him for the things he said and did when he brain was drowning in the chemicals that my anger wasn’t a sign of hate it was a sign of my desperation, of my fear of losing him like we did he will forever be the greatest thing we lost and while my brain and body works to make sense of him being gone for so long i encourage you to check in on your friends today, and let them know how needed they are 🤍

this was the first day that my husband was fully present with the kids and i after returning home from treatment he smiled, laughed and actually looked me in the eyes we sat at a dinner as a family of four the heavy, salty florida airkissing our faces causing our thighs to stick to the chairs and my hair to curl my handsome husband told jokes that made me blush and roll my eyes flirting with me over the burger + fries we spilt agreeing to come back the next night for another he kept reaching across the table for my hand, at times sneaking it onto my thigh pinching it as he gave me that all familiar wink one of the top three reasons why i fell in love with him he had taken Noah fishing just hours before he got a witness him catch his first fish ever a memory my boy still talks about to this day… a memory i am so glad he has i’m not sure when i will tell him the truth behind that day enough of his innocence was stolen the day his daddy died that day i felt like i could finally breathe i felt like my husband had finally found pieces of himself again that had been lost for so long i felt like we were going to be okay i felt such a deep sense of relief little did i know he had relapsed earlier that day taking some pills he had found washing them down with a bottle of tito’s a bottle that later in the night i would notice was almost empty leaving me question why he was all of the sudden so sick terrified to ask him why knowing that the truth before it even came out of his lips the devastation in his voice still echoes in my mind addiction is a thief with its conniving ways it tarnishes every good memory with it’s lies it continued to steal so much from us from that day forward as we packed up and came back home the next day not knowing what was ahead my body, now three years later, still bracing as it remembers it all addiction hides itself away in the most innocent moments in places and spaces that were once so sacred a true embodiment of both/and one that has made its way into our grief as well and i wish so badly it didn’t win that day

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day—a day to remember the lives lost, to stand with the families still grieving, and to shine a light on the reality of addiction. My life and the life of my family have been drastically impacted by this cunning, baffling, and powerful disease. For 15 years, I struggled in its grip—caught in a cycle that almost cost me my life more than once. By the grace of God, I was given the chance to surrender, to change, and to walk a new path. Not everyone gets that same chance. In March of 2019, my sister Leighann lost her battle with addiction. She was more than her struggle—she was a mom, a daughter, a friend, and a sister. She loved to read, to play sports, and most of all, she loved spending time with her kids. Her laugh, toughness, and her presence are missed every single day. Addiction doesn’t just affect the person—it ripples through families, communities, and generations. The grief of losing someone to an overdose never fully leaves, but neither does the love. That’s why days like today matter. They remind us that every life lost is not just a statistic, but a son, a daughter, a parent, a friend. On this day, I honor my sister’s memory, and I stand with every family who has felt this kind of loss. I also stand as living proof that recovery is possible. To anyone still in the fight: don’t give up. Your story isn’t over yet. #overdoseawareness #overdoseawarenessday #addiction #addictionrecovery #endthestigma #recoveryispossible❤️

We recorded this video after the call was completed for demonstration purposes. While riding the “rescue”(ambulance) this morning we were called for an over dose in a gas station bathroom. Gas station workers attempted to kick open the door themselves with no luck. The privacy lever you see was not working correctly, and could not be unlocked from the outside. With our plastic Loiding tool, we were able to bypass the latch on this inward swing door in seconds, and make quick, professional, and non destructive access to a very unstable overdose patient before the engine could arrive with forcible entry tools. This is a prime example of why through the lock, and by pass techniques should be taught to first responders. #yourlocksdontwork #throughthelock #passiveentry #covertentry #forcibleentrytraining #forcibleentry #firefighter #firefightertraining #overdoseawareness #firstresponders

Avoid Medication Overdose Following prescribed dosages of medication is critical for efficacy and safety; taking too much medicine can lead to severe side effects, organ damage, and even death, whereas taking too little may render the treatment ineffective.
