OUThis was the third meltdown before 8am… and all we needed to do was brush her hair.
It took 35 minutes to get through this one — and it wasn’t the last.
Some days are heavier than others, but this is pretty much our everyday. Special needs parenting strips you of everything you thought you knew. It pulls you so far from what the world calls “normal” that you barely recognize your old life.
The only way through is allowing the feelings….holding space until the storm passes……while making sure she knows she is safe, supported, and loved when she’s ready. But also holding the boundary that she cannot hurt herself or anyone else.
And yes… she has almost broken my nose during a meltdown because she completely blacks out.
What’s heartbreaking is not just the meltdown…..it’s the judgment. The stares. The silent assumptions that somehow this is bad parenting. You can feel people looking straight through you.
The world is not built for children who are different.
But maybe one day, it will be.

REMAKE IT STOP 😩 Misinformation surrounding vascular birthmarks is a constant issue. I have no clue why there is so little information on something that 1/300 babies are born with (and no it’s not from the freaking SOLAR ECLIPSE) but I will continue doing my part here and on @helloportwinestain to share accurate information + postivity.
Consider following @vbirthmarks for ACCURATE information or my friend @beccaleebeauty for a positive real life experience.
