BEEVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT JELLYFISH IN THE PHILIPPINES 🪼
I’m not going to lie - we knew we were coming to the Philippines in the middle of jellyfish season and we were extremely nervous about snorkeling. Our guide brushed off our concerns and said the first time you get stung is the Philippines welcoming you to the islands and that the second time means you’re unlucky. Ummmm…what!? Let’s just say that didn’t make us feel better. Happy to say we left with zero stings 🙏🏻 but the danger is real, so here’s what you need to know if you’re heading to Palawan:
🗓 The Season: Jellyfish populations spike in warmer months (March–May) but can be present year-round.
👀 Invisible Threats: “Sea lice” (jellyfish larvae) are everywhere and will sting you, even in crystal-clear water. Fortunately, it’s not life-threatening, just uncomfortable.
🛑 Prevention: Rash guards or full stinger suits/leggings are your best physical barrier against both the sun and tentacles.
🩹 If Stung: * NO fresh water or rubbing! It triggers more venom. Douse with white vinegar for 30+ seconds (always check that your boat has some before jumping in). Pluck tentacles off with tweezers. Seek medical help immediately for severe pain or reactions.

As you know, homebase ko sa Pinas since 2023 is between El Nido and Puerto Princesa - so this is something I’m personally excited about.
Just read the news that @grab_ph secured 100 car slots approved by the LTFRB to operate in Puerto Princesa. 👏
So aside from @backride_pinas (the local transport app we’ve been using - and no, hindi lang puro tricycle dito, may cars din sa app 😂), mas dadali na ang transport options.
For foreigners flying into Puerto Princesa and heading to El Nido, you have more options than tricycle and private taxi or van hire.
