If you think a box is just a box, you haven’t been to the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis @childrenstheatrecompany for their Forts #CTCForts experience! We went in with no expectations and came out as master architects of a glowing, sprawling cardboard kingdom. 🏰💡
This isn't just play—it’s unstoppable imaginary play on a massive scale. With miles of fabric, mountains of boxes, and a touch of theatrical lighting, the kids built everything from secret tunnels to sky-high towers. It’s a beautiful reminder that when you give children the space (and the boxes!), their creativity knows no bounds. 🛡️🌌

A_There’s something about a good set of play blocks that just makes you want to build. These bespoke Play Blocks live in the Mosaic Rooms’ Play Room — and this little video captures exactly the kind of quiet, focused joy the space was designed for. The Play Room is a new fully accessible space for children, families and young people, part of the major refurbishment of The Mosaic Rooms by @a_small_studio. Every detail — from the joinery to the layout — was designed to support curiosity, movement and making together. Come and play.

THPaper Play - Since the last few weeks, we have organically developed a free play practice where my 6 year olds take paper and let their imagination flow. There are no fixed rules, no expected outcomes, and no correct answers.

Initially the children would colour whatever was printed on the reuse paper, then they began drawing their own forms. Folds were introduced next, and elements of their drawing could be arranged in layers, their illustrations could now "open" and "close". Then they began tearing and cutting - making decisions about how much to keep, what to show, what to edit. And after that, as adhesives came in, they could now pull out one thing from here and fix it with another there. Paper could be rolled, crumpled, cut, torn, folded and also pasted to itself. Finally, they are not only creating objects of amusement, but also approaching making from a design thinking lens. I see so many books, laptops, bags, object-holders, cards, and play resources. Ultimately, what these inspiring minds, hearts and hands bring to us is a truckload of love, beautifully and honestly presented.

We do this for less than 15 minutes in a day and it makes our classroom so warm throughout. I can really "see" my young companions' minds working and their imagination and confidence growing. Oh, the wonders paper does!
