I was gifted a box of 90gm crepe paper by @cartotecnicarossi and have been blown away by not only the gorgeous colour variety this paper comes in but just how robust and strong this paper is despite having such a delicate look. I love testing paper with Poppies because the petals require a lot of sculpting and this paper held up beautifully. Things I do as a paper weaver… @liesel.scribbles All of my weaves start out as original photographs or images I’ve created digitally. I print the images on my home printer or if l want larger prints on special paper, I sent them out to @lumaprints . I create my patterns in Excel by just filling in the blank squares. For me, orange means I’ll pull the weft over the warp and blank means I will pull it under. I use one of my large paper cutters to slice the weft and arrange it on a board. Now the fun starts…I weave the two images together. It’s always magical to see how the colors and images play! I usually incorporate another woven layer using a needle and paper raffia to add shapes, texture and dimension. I trim the edges of the weave to give more visual interest and in some cases to make holes in the weave representing decay. I add dabs of glue to stabilize the weave. I stand back and enjoy the finished paper weave! #weaving #papermade #woven #offloomweaving #contemporaryweaving #photoweaving #weaversofinstagram #paperweave #bayareaweaver #artisttakingoverfan  #fiberartnow #process

What a great surprise to see my “Biology Rising” installation in the @fiberartnow Spring 2025 magazine ! Their “Paper Made ll” call for entry is due this Friday, June 6th. This piece of mine made it into the “Paper Made” show a couple of years ago, which was so validating for me, an artist in rural Oregon who spends so much of my creative time alone in my studio out in the country, making up crazy ideas and wondering if people “get” what I’m doing. This installation is made of hundreds of hand pulled gel pad monotypes on old sewing patterns, glued on wire and dipped in beeswax. This Spring edition of the magazine features their “Contemporary Fiber Botanical” show which can be seen in real life at the @denverbotanic garden through September. It’s so inspiring and grounding to see so many artists creating beautiful art, all in one place. #fiberart #papermade #installationart #fiberartist #paperarts #printmakingart #printmaking #gelliprinting #gelliarts
