MAI don’t usually get very personal on here, but today I have to.
I was born in Cuba and lived there until I was 14 years old. I know what it feels like to live with shortages, with uncertainty, with fear, and with no control over your future. So when I see what’s happening in Cuba right now, it hurts in a different way. It’s not politics for me — it’s personal. It’s family, it’s memories, it’s my people.
No matter what governments decide, no matter what political moves are made, the ones who always suffer the most are the people. Not the ones in power. The people. The families. The kids. The elderly. The ones who are already struggling to find food, water, medicine, and electricity.
People talk about protests and change, and I’m very proud of the Cuban people because they are incredibly strong and brave. But the reality is, it’s very hard to fight, to protest, to stand up against anything when you are hungry, when you haven’t slept because there’s no electricity, when you’re worried about how your family is going to eat tomorrow.
I love this country that gave me opportunities, but I will always love Cuba and the Cuban people. My heart is with every family going through hard times right now. Cuba doesn’t deserve this, and the Cuban people deserve a future, freedom, and the chance to live with dignity.

Según información difundida por el periodista cubanoamericano Mario Pentón, la hija de la teniente coronel Niurka Valdez Figueredo reside en Tampa, cuenta con estatus de residencia y habría viajado a Cuba en 2024 para visitar a su madre. También se señala que entró a Estados Unidos con visa de no inmigrante y posteriormente aplicó a la Ley de Ajuste Cubano.
Aquí es donde surge la contradicción que muchos están señalando: se obtiene protección y beneficios en un país al que miles llegan huyendo de una realidad que, al mismo tiempo, algunos defienden o con la que están vinculados desde posiciones de poder en Cuba.
Mientras tanto, un joven de 16 años como Jonathan Muir sigue preso por pedir libertad. Dos realidades opuestas que hoy están encendiendo el debate dentro y fuera de la comunidad cubana.
No es solo una noticia. Es una pregunta abierta sobre coherencia, justicia y verdad.

MAThere’s nothing that bothers me more than when someone who has never lived under a dictatorship who has no family, no close friends, no real connection to the reality we go through tries to tell me what is “actually” wrong with my country.
Cuba is currently experiencing its third full power outage because of the severe lack of resources and infrastructure. And every single time I hear people reduce that reality to simply being the result of the U.S. blockade, it just reminds me how little many people truly understand about what is happening.
Yes, there is a U.S. embargo on Cuba. That is a fact. But it is also a fact that Cuba has lived under a dictatorship for over six decades. Cuban people have spoken. They have taken to the streets. They have expressed their frustration, their exhaustion, and their lack of real electoral choice.
Yet many still choose to believe whatever fits their narrative the most and honestly, that is deeply upsetting to me.
I can disagree with policies or administrations in the United States without being blind to the reality of what is happening in my own country. Both things can be true at the same time.
