PE⚠️ One of Perth’s most picturesque coastal walks is about to look a little different - temporarily!
If the Iluka Coastal Path is part of your regular routine, there are some changes ahead. Sections of the much-loved shared path between Burns Beach and Iluka Foreshore Park will be closed from March to August 2026, as construction ramps up on the major Burns Beach foreshore redevelopment.
This stunning stretch of coastline is easily one of the northern suburbs most popular exercise routes, drawing walkers, runners, families, cyclists, dog walkers and sunset chasers year-round. The gently winding paved path hugs the foreshore, delivering uninterrupted views over the Indian Ocean, with plenty of lookout points, beach access stairways and scenic places to pause along the way.
At the Iluka end, the elevated lookout and nautical-themed playground at Iluka Foreshore Park are a favourite stopping point, while at Burns Beach, the food scene adds to the appeal. Whether it’s ocean-view brunch at @SistasBurnsBeach, or grabbing one of Perth’s best toasties from @MeltEspressoBar, this coastal trail doubles as both an exercise route and a social hub.
While the temporary closures may cause some inconvenience, the long-term payoff is shaping up to be something truly special. The $10.7 million Burns Beach Coastal Node Upgrade will transform the foreshore with a new two-storey café and restaurant, a vibrant adventure playground, upgraded BBQ and picnic areas, improved amenities, enhanced accessibility, and more than 100 additional parking bays. Once complete, Burns Beach Park and Foreshore will become an even more dynamic destination for locals and visitors alike.
Pedestrians and cyclists should keep an eye out for signed detours and check the City of Joondalup website for closure updates. Come 2027, Perth can look forward to enjoying a refreshed coastal precinct that elevates one of our most scenic shoreline walks.
